We Are Seven Summary in English

Here we have uploaded the We Are Seven Summary in English for students. This will help students to learn quickly in English and Hindi language.

The speaker wonders what a sweet, living, breathing child, completely full of vitality, can know about death.

The speaker tells that he once met a little girl living in the countryside. She was eight years old and had thick, curly hair.

The child's appearance reflected his rural upbringing and was somewhat chaotic. Her eyes were very sweet and her beauty mesmerized the speaker.

The speaker asked the little girl how many children are there in her family. He replied that there were seven children in total and looked at the speaker anxiously.

Then he asked the little girl to tell where all these children live. The girl said that of the seven children, two lived in Conway (in the UK) and two were far away at sea.

The girl then clarified that two additional siblings—a brother and a sister—were buried in the churchyard, and that she and her mother lived in a nearby cottage.

Confused, the speaker asks the sweet little girl to explain how she can have seven children in her family if she only has two siblings who live in Conway and two who are at sea.

The little girl reiterated that there were, in fact, seven children in her family, as two of them were lying under a tree in the cathedral.

The speaker retorted that the little girl herself was able to run around by being alive, so if two of her siblings were lying in a church cemetery, there were really only five children in her family.

The little girl noted that new plant life emerged from the graves of her siblings. Moreover, she could see them and visit them, as her brother and sister were buried just steps away from the hut she shared with her mother.

The girl then told how she loved spending time with her dead siblings—weaving, sewing handkerchiefs, and singing songs while sitting on the ground near their graves.

She explains that when it is nice outside after sunset, she often takes a small bowl to the church yard and eats her food near their graves.

The child then told the speaker that his sister Jane was the first to die. Jane was sick and lay in bed, crying in pain, until God brought her out of her misery and she left.

As such, Jane was buried in the churchyard, and the little girl and her brother, John, would play by her grave when the weather allowed.

But one winter, when the field was covered with slippery, white snow in which the little girl could play, John also died and was buried next to Jane.

When the child finished his story, the speaker again asked how many siblings he had, noting that Jane and John had gone to heaven. The little girl immediately replied that there were seven children in her family.

The speaker said that his brothers and sisters were dead, reiterating that their souls had gone to heaven. At this point, the speaker felt like he was wasting his words, as the little girl would never stop insisting that there are actually seven children in her family.
