About SB Deorah College
Sreenivas Basudev Deorah College, popularly referred to as S.B.Deorah College, nestles in an ideal location in the arterial G.S.Road of Guwahati. Formerly named, Ulubari College, this institution started functioning in the premises of the neighbouring Ulubari High School in the evening on 9th September 1984 with 75 students in its roll for the higher secondary programme.
The College has been set up with the painstaking efforts of a few academically conscious personalities who felt the need of an institution of higher education in the Ulubari locality. Late Chidananda Das, former Registrar of Gauhati University, was the founder President of the Steering Committee of the College. On 9th September 1987, the college started functioning from its own temporary Assam-type shed. It was upgraded to the status of Degree College in the same year.

THREE YEARS DEGREE COURSE (TDC): ARTS
Gauhati University introduced semester system in degree course from the session 2011 – 2012. The three years degree course, therefore, consists of 6 semesters and examination will be held at the end of each semester.
A student is required to take two compulsory subjects in semester I & II and III & IV semester. Along with the compulsory subjects a student is required to take two elective subjects.
The College offers major course in following subjects :

Political Science
A student having major in any of the above subjects must take one Elective Subject from the above mentioned elective subjects in addition to the compulsory subjects.
Procedure for Major Selection:
There will be an entrance test for admission into the major courses of all subjects. The cut-off-mark to appear for the entrance test will be fixed by the respective departments. The list of qualified students will be declared in due course.
Note: A student who takes Major in Assamese cannot take Elective Assamese as a subject.
THREE YEARS DEGREE COURSE: COMMERCE
This is a three years (six semesters) programme leading to the degree of Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com). The students of the B.Com (Semester – I) can take the following subjects:

COMPUTER COURSE
The College offers a compulsory computer course to the students of H.S.1st Year and TDC 1st Year in order to make them computer literate.
The computer classes are held within the normal college hours and included in the class routine. The course material and a certificate to the successful students will be given at the end of the course. This course is conducted by the College in association with iFuture Computer Education, Maligaon, Guwahati. Contents of the course are as follows:

FRENCH LANGUAGE COURSE
The college has tied with Global Academy of Foreign Languages and Professional Training of R.G.Baruah Road, Guwahati to offer Certificate and Diploma Courses on foreign languages. This is a 100 hours (approx.) course followed by higher levels of French studies. Trained faculties will conduct the classes in the afternoon session. The course is open to the students of this college as well as to the willing learners from outside. On successful completion of the certificate course, the learners will get opportunity to appear in the international examination conducted by the French Embassy, New Delhi and the diploma will be awarded by the Govt. of France.
