About Bahona College
Bahona College is a premier institution of higher education located in a rural environment. The college was established in 1966, to cater to the needs of higher education as well as to alleviate the socio-economic conditions of the larger locality within which it is located. Numerous distinguished educationists and social workers had taken the initiative in the establishment of the college to open up new vistas of a brighter future for the generations to come.
Bahona College is a co-education institute established on 15th July 1966. It is located at Bahona, 9 kms to the North East of Jorhat town toward Nimati Ghat at the river Brahmaputra. The college offers courses of study in arts and Science Streams at Higher Secondary and Undergraduate level. With a heritage that goes back to more than forty years, Bahona College unequivocally occupies the place of pride among the institution of higher education affiliated to the Dibrugarh University.
The College was brought under the system of deficit in the year 1975. Now is has a strength of about 1000 student and 60 teachers and 15 department .Major is offered by all department except Computer Sc. and Electronics. This College is the result of a vision of the local people of Bahona and a few distinguished educationists, social activists and political leader of Jorhat to provide higher education to a large number of rural and economically backward students belonging to Bahona andits neighboring areas. What had started as a humble effort to bring the light of knowledge to this back ward area, has now flowered into an institution of recognition rendering quality education to students coming from different parts of Assam. We are committee to continue with the tradition and the vision of our founders.

- Economics: This is a department with four faculty members- Prof. Binoda Bora is the senior most faculty followed by Dr. Rafique Ahmed, Prof. Mainu Moni Saikia and Dr. Reema Rabha. It offers Major and Non Major courses for undergraduate students under Dibrugarh University syllabus. Dr. Ahmed is the present Head of the Department.
- Political Science: This Department was established in 1966. It offers Major and Non Major courses for undergraduate students under Dibrugarh University syllabus. Presently it has a strength of 90 seats in Major. It is a department with four faculty members. Prof. Sanjay Mili, a Rajiv Gandhi University Post Graduate is the Head of the Department. Prof. Ranjit Pegu is the second senior most faculty of the department who did his masters from Dibrugarh University. Dr. Mridul Dutta did his MA and PhD from Dibrugarh University. The youngest faculty of the department is Dr. Pankaj Bora. Dr. Bora completed his graduation from prestigious Cotton College and completed his Master Degree from Gauhati University. He did his Ph.D on livelihood security under the supervision of Prof. Akhil Ranjan Dutta from Gauhati University. Department of Political Science has a rich department library It has two self sponsored courses- Certificate Course on Human Rights and Certificate Course on Leadership and Governance.
