About Ekbalpur Govt Girls College
Government Girls’ General Degree College is the fourth Government college for girls in West Bengal. Due to its proximity to National Library, Calcutta University Alipur Campus, and other major locations of southern Kolkata, the college is favourably accessible to a large section of students interested in higher education. The establishment of this college marks a positive and progressive initiative towards facilitating higher education for women in West Bengal. Incidentally, the college was established after a decade long pressing demand for a Women’s college in the locality. The college was inaugurated on the 28th January, 2016 by Honourable Chief Minister Smt. Mamata Banerjee. The College has been affiliated to the University of Calcutta. The inauguration inevitably marked the beginning of a journey towards achieving academic excellence for women. Presently, the college offers Honours Courses both in Arts, Science and Commerce streams. Faculties of all fourteen departments (Honours) put untiring efforts to provide quality academic guidance to all students and work towards their overall developments.
The College offers Undergraduate Courses in three streams viz. Science, Arts and Commerce.
• Three year B.Sc. (Hons.) Courses in five Science subjects

These courses are offered to students passing H.S. or equivalent examinations with requisite marks and combinations. In addition to general subjects each Honours student has to opt for Compulsory English and either of the three MIL Subjects – Bengali/Urdu/Alternative English.
In a three tier system of examination students appear at the Part-I examination after the completion of one year of study (Two Honours papers of 100 marks each and one paper of 100 marks for each of the two General subjects. In addition, a student has to appear for Compulsory English and one Modern Indian Language paper, each of 50 marks). On being qualified, one can sit for the Part-II examination after the completion of second year of the study (Two Honours papers of 100 marks each and two papers, each of 100 marks, for each of the two General subjects). Finally, a student can appear for the Part-III examination after completion of the third year of study (Four Honours papers of 100 marks each. In addition, a student has to appear for an Environmental Science paper of 100 marks which includes a project work of 25 marks).
