About Bahauddin Science College
Bahauddin College, Junagadh is more than a hundred year old college with great tradition of generating quality students and having learned faculty right from the outset. Vazir Bahauddinbhai played a vital role in the establishment of this college. There was no such educational institute then in Bombay and Karachi at that time. Vazir of Sorath state Shri Bahauddinbhai was a great visionary who contributed to the construction of the building. The building is unique. The college officially started in 1901.
The original Bahauddin College consisted of arts and science faculties. From the very beginning the college has science stream with BIOLOGY, MATHEMATICS, AND PHILOSOPHICAL SCIENCE as main subjects. The present science college was bifurcated from the parent institute in 1983. This is the college which was established before pre-independence and before even the formation of the state of Gujarat.
At present there are around 1500 students studying basic science subjects like PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY, BOTANY, ZOOLOGY, MATHEMATICS and FORENSIC SCIENCE. There are qualified, expert, experienced and committed faculties as well as members in the set up.
Most of the faculties have been selected on the basis of permanent screening by the state public service commission (GPSC) and also most of them have passed eligibility tests like NET and SET. Most of the faculty members are either NET/SET OR having Ph.D./M.Phil. Degree. The college is recognized under section 2 (f) and 12B of the UGC Act 1956 and is entitled to receive grants from Governments and its funding agencies including the University Grants Commission, New Delhi. The college was accredited by NAAC scoring grade B++ (81%). All the class rooms of the college are very spacious and laboratories are specially designed. The college is in the heart of the city and it is in itself a landmark. It has its own cultural and archaeological heritage. More than 50% faculty members are the students of this college and naturally they are inclined to work hard with great sense of commitment and devotion for the mother institute. Very high academic environment is prevailing in the college as a result of this many of our students topped in the university examinations and some of them won gold medals.
We impart science education along with values in life and that is our motto too. Teacher-student relationship has produced unbelievable results. There is harmony between the faculties and coherence with the students. Consequently the students are encouraged and inspired to get the best results in the examination and to become good human beings with integral personality aspect. We have been able to create special inclination among the students for their subjects as well as have been able to bring best out of them. We are proud of the fact that the alumina of this college consist of Lokayukt, M.L.A, eminent teachers, educationists, doctors, industrialists, public leaders, writers and research scientists who contribute a lot to the society. Right from the beginning the college has its own hostel with good facilities.
This is the one and only college in Gujarat where the subject of Forensic science is taught and bachelor degree in Forensic Science is awarded. Our professors have undertaken the responsibility of working as sports officer, librarian etc and have achieved remarkable results. The classrooms are equipped with audio visual aids. We have big semi-green campus. The students of this college have participated in state level sports and cultural competitions and have achieved remarkable success. Most of the professors are members of Board of Studies in their respective subjects. As a result we have special voice in curriculum development.
The Bahauddin Science College has been authorized to accomplish the extra-curricular activities of Higher Education Commissionerate like – NCC, NSS, Vanche Gujarat, Saptdhara etc and in this connection this college has been given due credit to complete all these works successfully and carved a nice among the other Colleges. The college has got best college award by higher education department during 2009 – 2014. All these attainments will not be possible without the active and proactive role of all the teachers, laboratory staffs and other employees working in this college.
