Once upon a time there was no story in the world. The Sky God, Nyme, had them all. Anansi went to Nyme and asked how much it would cost to buy the stories. Nyme set a high price. He had three conditions: Anansi must bring back the Mamoboro Hornet, Onini the Python and Osebo the Leopard.

Since the python could not easily straighten itself completely, it was difficult to accurately estimate its actual length. When it stretched at one end, it shortened at the other end. So the python agreed to tie it to the pole. When he was completely tied up, Anansi took him to Nyme.

To catch the leopard, Ansi dug a deep pit in the ground. When the leopard fell into the hole, Anansi offered to help him with a strong rope. He lowered a tall tree to the ground so that its top rests on the pit, and he tied it up like this. Then he tied a rope to the tree and dropped its other end into the pit.

"Tie it to your tail", he said. Osebo tied the rope to his tail. "Is it tied well?" Anansi asked. "Yeah, it's tied well", said the leopard. "In that case", said Anansi, "you are not only half-foolish, you are all-fooler".

And he took his knife, and cut the other rope, the one that had the tree fell to the ground. The tree straightened with a jerk, pulling Osebo out of the hole. He was hanging head down in the air, twisting and turning. And while he was hanging like this, Anansi killed him with his weapons.
Then he took the leopard's body and carried it to Nyme, the Sky God, and said: "This is the third thing. Now I have paid the price."
