In the poem 'Ethics', Linda Paston speaks of her experience and understanding of the true meaning of morality. She remembers her school days when her ethics teacher used to ask her students the same question every fall (autumn). The teacher used to ask her students who would they save if the museum caught fire - a Rembrandt painting or an old woman who didn't have many years to live?

Students will be restless on hard chairs and will answer half-heartedly without understanding the importance of the question. Since they cared little for art or life, they chose life one year and art the next. Another year Linda tried to suggest letting the woman decide for herself, but the teacher warned her not to shy away from her responsibility to make a choice.

Years later, in the autumn, Linda visited a museum and stood in front of a real Rembrandt painting. When he studied painting, he noticed that the colors were darker than autumn, darker than winter. The painter's colors on the canvas were those dark colors seen at the end of a season. However, he saw that the most radiant elements of the earth burned through these dark colors. Using images like these she expresses what she sees in Rembrandt that a child would not be able to see.

Paston felt that a beautiful painting and an old woman were "beyond savings by the children". Paston understood that a child would prefer to save an old woman rather than painting because the child felt it was the morally right thing to do. The unmatched beauty of the painting was truly worth saving. At the same time she was now standing in the place of the old woman. She understood the value of painting which she could not do as a young girl. He remembered how little either the picture or old age meant to him at that time.

She now realized the teacher's real intention in asking the question - that women, painting and weather are all equally important and they go beyond saving by the children. Paston showed that children at a young age do not fully understand the meaning of morality, they will do what seems morally right. She understood that morality comes with the experience that one has in one's life.

In the concluding part of the poem, which states, "Now I know that woman and painting and weather are almost beyond the saving of another children", it is clear that this poem is not intended for the amusement of the children, but for the children's amusement. is for.
