This is a comic poem. It tells how Benjamin Jones won the swimming competition even though he was not a good swimmer. Benjamin Jones told his wife that he would participate in a free-for-all swimming competition on the Fourth of July. If he tried he was sure to win the competition. His wife was not enthusiastic about this matter. He thought it was a foolish decision as Benjamin had not gone swimming in years. He was sure that he would be the last as the other contestants would swim faster than him. Then he will be ashamed of his failure. On the day of the competition, a group of swimmers stood at the starting line.

Each of them wanted to win races and become famous. The competition started. Benji was overtaken by swimmers on the left and right. Benji was swimming so slowly that a crab saw his toe and wanted to try to bite him. Benji saw the crab moving towards his toe. He was horrified at the mere thought of his toe in the crab's claw. He swam fast as if possessed by some supernatural spirit. He overtook all the swimmers in a hurry to escape the crab. Seeing this his wife could not believe it. The shock of her husband winning the race was so great that she splashed and fell into the lake.

उनमें से प्रत्येक दौड़ जीतना और प्रसिद्ध होना चाहता था। प्रतियोगिता शुरू हुई। बेंजी को तैराकों ने बायीं और दायीं ओर से पछाड़ दिया। बेंजी इतनी धीमी गति से तैर रहा था कि एक केकड़े ने उसके पैर का अंगूठा देखा और उसे काटने की कोशिश करना चाहता था। बेंजी ने केकड़े को अपने पैर के अंगूठे की ओर बढ़ते देखा। केकड़े के पंजों में अपने पैर के अंगूठे के विचार मात्र से वह भयभीत हो गया। वह तेजी से तैरने लगा जैसे कि किसी अलौकिक आत्मा के पास हो। उसने केकड़े से बचने की हड़बड़ी में सभी तैराकों को पीछे छोड़ दिया। यह देख उसकी पत्नी को विश्वास नहीं हुआ। उसके पति के रेस जीतने का सदमा इतना जबरदस्त था कि वह छींटे मार कर झील में गिर गई।
