Tsunami Summary:
Part I
Tsunami refers to a very large and powerful wave in the ocean. It is caused by an earthquake under the sea. One such disaster affected many countries on 26 December 2004. The worst affected parts were the coastal parts of India, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Thailand. About 150,000 people lost their lives. But the animals suffered very few casualties. Perhaps they sensed the impending earthquake and ran to safer higher places.

This text narrates some of the stories of bravery and wisdom when the tsunami hit the Andaman. The first story is about Ignius, the manager of a co-operative society in Cathal. His wife woke him up at six in the morning. The family members came out of the house. When the earth stopped trembling, the sea began to rise. The waves swept away her two children and in-laws. But three other children were saved as they were with him.

Sanjeev was a policeman. He managed to save himself, his wife and daughter from the waves. But soon he hears a cry for help from the wife of the guesthouse cook, John. He jumped into the water to save her. But both got lost. 13-year-old Meghna was taken away along with her parents and 77 others. She remained at the wooden door for two days. Eleven times relief helicopters flew over, but they could not find him. However, he was eventually brought ashore by a wave.

Almas Javed was a ten-year-old student in a convent school in Port Blair. His family had gone to another island to celebrate Christmas. Almas's father saw in the morning the waves of the sea receding. They understood that the waves would come back with strength. He tried to take his family to a safe place. But his father and grandfather were swept away by a huge wave. His mother and aunt were swept away. Almas climbed a log of wood. He later found himself in a hospital.

Part II

There is also a story from Thailand. The Smith family was celebrating Christmas at a beach resort. The parents had two daughters. On 26 December 2004 the water kept coming. But the little Tuffle Smith sensed the danger ahead. He recalled a geography lesson that Thunami can be caused by earthquakes, volcanoes and landslides. He called his family out to the beach. His parents went to the third floor of the hotel and survived. Thus his geography lessons saved his life.

Part - III

While humans lost their lives. Wild and domestic animals sensed the danger in time. Elephants ran for higher ground and dogs, birds and zoo animals looked for safe places. Perhaps animals have a sixth sense. They feel tremors long before humans realize it. So many animals were not reported to have died. In Sri Lanka's Yala National Park. No carcasses of the animals were found, while sixty visitors were swept away.

भाग - III

जबकि इंसानों की जान चली गई। जंगली और घरेलू जानवरों ने समय रहते खतरे को भांप लिया। हाथी ऊंची जमीन के लिए दौड़े और कुत्ते, पक्षी और चिड़ियाघर के जानवर सुरक्षित स्थानों की तलाश में रहे। शायद जानवरों में छठी इंद्री होती है। इंसानों को इसका एहसास होने से बहुत पहले वे झटके महसूस करते हैं। इसलिए कई जानवरों के मरने की सूचना नहीं थी। श्रीलंका के याला नेशनल पार्क में। जानवरों का कोई शव नहीं मिला, जबकि साठ आगंतुक बह गए।
