It is a humorous story about a man named Bipin Choudhary who was made to think that he has completely lost his memory of a certain period in his life. Bipin Chowdhary lived all alone and had few friends. He used to read books to pass his time. He was fond of reading crime stories, ghost stories and thrillers. He used to go to a shop in New Market every Monday to buy books. One Monday she saw a man looking strangely at her. He was surprised that Bipin Babu had not recognized him. He reminded Bepin of his Ranchi visit in 1958.

He introduces himself as Parimal Ghosh and says that he is also with her. But Bipin Babu never went to Ranchi. He tried to persuade Mr. Ghosh to do this, but he did not agree. He told Bipin Babu many details of his personal life and claimed that he himself had told them all these things to him. He also mentioned some incidents that happened during his stay in Ranchi. Bipin Babu leaves the shop and tries to forget everything about Mr. Ghosh but to no avail. It seemed that the man knew some intimate details like the bag of books, the death of his wife, the madness of his brother etc.

But Bepin was sure that he had never been to Ranchi throughout his life. Parimal Ghosh also said that Mr. Dinesh Mukherjee was in Ranchi at that time. Bipin Babu knew him well. So she thought of going to him. He then dismissed the idea as it sounded ridiculous and may have even led Dinesh to doubt the soundness of his mind. Furthermore, Bipin Babu feared that such a question would invite bitter sarcasm from Dinesh, who is known for his cruel treatment of friends.

The next day at his office, the incident came to his mind again. She calls Dinesh. To his surprise, Dinesh also confirmed his visit to Ranchi. In despair, Bipin Babu slammed the receiver and grabbed his head with his hands.
Bipin Babu had a reputation for being a tireless worker in his firm. But that day he was feeling tired and dizzy. He left the office and came home. When he lay on his bed, his servant told him that Chunni Babu wanted to see him. Although at first she refused to meet Chunni Babu, Sata thought about passing her time. He was fond of reading crime stories, ghost stories and thrillers.

He used to go to a shop in New Market every Monday to buy books. One Monday she saw a man looking strangely at her. To his surprise, Beptan Babu did not recognize the journey he had taken to Ranchi, forcing him to seek confirmation from Chunni Babu. He quickly went down the stairs. He asked Chunni Babu if he remembered anything about his visit to the farm! Chunfalal confirmed the facts in such a way that he hit him like a hammer.

Bipin Babu sighed and shook his head. He decided to meet Dr Paresh Chanda, an expert. After hearing his problem, Dr. Chanda said that he must have gone to Ranchi but due to some reason the whole incident had gone out of his mind. He suggested Bipin Babu to go to Ranchi once again. The sight of the place might remind him of the journey.

As per the suggestion of the doctor, Bipin Babu visited Ranchi. He kept wandering from place to place but nothing came to his mind. His head was getting heavy and he became more and more convinced that he had never been there. So he fainted and came to himself only in the evening when he was discovered by a group of picnickers.

The next morning, Bipin Babu came back home. He was completely disappointed. He felt that he was going to lose his balance of mind. He immediately called Dr. Chanda. Then after taking a bath he went to bed. Then he got a letter from Chunilal. After reading this. He understood the whole matter. All this was planned by Chunilal who wanted to punish him for his insensitive behaviour.

Now all the tension of Bipin Babu was gone. So when Dr. Chanda came, he invented a strange excuse. He said he was fine. He had sent her only for a pain reliever as her hip was hurting due to a fall in Ranchi.

लेकिन बेपिन को यकीन था कि वह जीवन भर कभी रांची नहीं गए थे। परिमल घोष ने यह भी कहा था कि श्री दिनेश मुखर्जी उस समय रांची में थे। बिपिन बाबू उसे अच्छी तरह जानते थे। तो उसने उसके पास जाने की सोची। तब उन्होंने इस विचार को खारिज कर दिया क्योंकि यह हास्यास्पद लग रहा था और यहां तक कि दिनेश को अपने दिमाग की सुदृढ़ता पर संदेह करने के लिए प्रेरित कर सकता था। इसके अलावा, बिपिन बाबू को डर था कि इस तरह के सवाल से दिनेश, जो दोस्तों के साथ अपने क्रूर व्यवहार के लिए जाना जाता है, से कटु व्यंग्य को आमंत्रित करेगा।

अपनी फर्म में एक अथक कार्यकर्ता होने के कारण बिपिन बाबू की ख्याति थी। लेकिन उस दिन वह थका हुआ और चक्कर महसूस कर रहा था। वह ऑफिस से निकल कर घर आ गया। जब वह अपने बिस्तर पर लेटा, तो उसके नौकर ने उससे कहा कि चुन्नी बाबू उसे देखना चाहता है। हालाँकि पहले तो उन्होंने चुन्नी बाबू से मिलने से इनकार कर दिया, लेकिन सता ने अपना समय बीतने के बारे में सोचा। उन्हें क्राइम स्टोरीज, घोस्ट स्टोरीज और थ्रिलर पढ़ने का शौक था।

डॉक्टर के सुझाव के अनुसार बिपिन बाबू ने रांची का दौरा किया। वह जगह-जगह घूमता रहा लेकिन उसके दिमाग में कुछ नहीं आया। उसका सिर बोझिल हो रहा था और उसे और अधिक यकीन हो गया था कि वह वहाँ कभी नहीं गया था। इसलिए वह बेहोश हो गया और शाम को ही अपने पास आया जब उसे पिकनिक मनाने वालों के एक समूह ने खोजा।

अगली सुबह, बिपिन बाबू घर वापस आ गए। वह पूरी तरह निराश था। उसने महसूस किया कि वह अपने दिमाग का संतुलन खोने जा रहा था। उन्होंने तुरंत डॉ चंदा को बुलाया। फिर नहाने के बाद वह बिस्तर पर आ गया। तभी उन्हें चुनीलाल का एक पत्र मिला। इसे पढ़ने के बाद। उन्हें पूरा मामला समझ में आ गया। यह सब चुनीलाल द्वारा नियोजित किया गया था जो उसे उसके असंवेदनशील व्यवहार के लिए दंडित करना चाहता था।

अब बिपिन बाबू की सारी टेंशन दूर हो गई थी। तो जब डॉ. चंदा आए तो उन्होंने एक अजीब सा बहाना इजाद किया। उन्होंने कहा कि वह ठीक थे। उसने उसे केवल एक दर्द निवारक दवा के लिए भेजा था क्योंकि रांची में गिरने के कारण उसके कूल्हे में दर्द हो रहा था।
