Tagore's 'The Last Bargain' is a sixteen-line poem composed in blank stanzas that gives a strong message to the materialistic world that no power, money or lust can make us happy. Simplicity and innocence prevail over everything else.

The poem The Last Bargain begins with a man walking on a cobbled road and asking him to rent it. The one who first wanted to hire him was a king. He came in his chariot and put his hand in front of the speaker and said that he wanted to employ her by his power. However, the king's power was not counted and he leaves the place in his chariot.

In the afternoon there was an old man with a sleeping bag. The speaker wandered down a narrow street made up of houses with closed doors. The old man tells the speaker that he will hire him with his own money. He measured the gold coins kept in his bag but the speaker rejected all his money. The speaker returns all the money because the money will soon be spent and money cannot buy us lasting happiness.

By evening, the garden's fence became full of flowers. A white maid comes out and tells the speaker that she will hire him with a smiling face. But her smile faded and she melted into tears and returned to the darkness leaving the speaker alone.

In the end, the deal is struck by a kid who hires the speaker for nothing. While the sun was shining on the sand and the waves of the sea covered the shores, a child was playing with shells. The child raised his head and smiled as if he already knew the speaker. Child bargaining makes the speaker an independent person. So power, money or lust could not free the speaker but the power of innocence had the ability to break his bondage. The child had the power to free him from every bondage.

कविता द लास्ट बार्गेन' पत्थर की पक्की सड़क पर चलने वाले और उसे किराए पर लेने के लिए कहने के साथ शुरू होती है। जो पहले उसे काम पर रखना चाहता था वह एक राजा था। वह अपने रथ में आया और उसने अपना हाथ स्पीकर के सामने रखते हुए कहा कि वह उसे अपनी शक्ति से काम पर रखना चाहता है। हालाँकि, राजा की शक्ति की कोई गिनती नहीं थी और वह अपने रथ में जगह छोड़ देता है।

दोपहर के समय सोने का थैला लिए एक बूढ़ा व्यक्ति था। स्पीकर बंद दरवाजों वाले घरों से बनी एक मुड़ी हुई गली में घूमता रहा। बूढ़ा आदमी स्पीकर से कहता है कि वह उसे अपने पैसे से काम पर रखेगा। उसने अपने बैग में रखे सोने के सिक्कों को मापा लेकिन स्पीकर ने उसके सारे पैसे को अस्वीकार कर दिया। वक्ता सारे पैसे वापस कर देता है क्योंकि पैसा जल्द ही खर्च हो जाएगा और पैसा हमें चिरस्थायी सुख नहीं खरीद सकता।

शाम होते ही बाग की बाड़ फूलों से गुल हो गई। एक गोरी नौकरानी बाहर आती है और स्पीकर से कहती है कि वह उसे मुस्कुराते हुए चेहरे के साथ काम पर रखेगी। लेकिन उसकी मुस्कान फीकी पड़ गई और वह आँसुओं में पिघल गई और स्पीकर को अकेला छोड़कर अंधेरे में लौट आई।

अंत में, सौदा एक बच्चे द्वारा मारा जाता है जो बिना कुछ लिए स्पीकर को काम पर रखता है। जब सूरज रेत पर चमक रहा था और समुद्र की लहरें तटों पर छाई हुई थीं, एक बच्चा सीपियों से खेल रहा था। बच्चे ने अपना सिर उठाया और मुस्कुराया जैसे वह पहले से ही वक्ता को जानता हो। बच्चे की सौदेबाजी वक्ता को स्वतंत्र व्यक्ति बनाती है। इसलिए शक्ति, धन या वासना वक्ता को मुक्त नहीं कर सकती थी लेकिन मासूमियत की शक्ति में उसके बंधन को तोड़ने की क्षमता थी। बालक में उसे हर बंधन से मुक्त करने की शक्ति थी।
