The poem is about what the Earth looks like from different heights. It is divided into three parts. When the jet takes off and soars high into the sky, you can have a view of the city at full height. कविता इस बारे में है कि पृथ्वी अलग-अलग ऊंचाई से कैसी दिखती है। इसे तीन भागों में बांटा गया है। जब जेट उड़ान भरता है और आसमान में ऊपर चढ़ने लगता है, तो आप शहर की पूरी ऊंचाई का दृश्य देख सकते हैं। शहर अपनी आवश्यकता के अनुसार विकसित हुआ और उचित योजना के अनुसार विकसित नहीं हुआ। इसकी कोई विशेष शैली नहीं है। जेट के ऊपर उठने के साथ, नीचे शहर का नक्शा केवल छह इंच के अनुरूप एक मील की लंबाई दिखाता है।

जब जेट लगभग दस हजार फीट ऊपर चढ़ता है, तो वह इस तथ्य को समझ सकता है कि शहर जल संसाधनों पर विकसित हुए, पानी ने कृषि, परिवहन, व्यवसाय और अन्य जैसी आवश्यकताओं को पूरा किया। उसने पाया कि घाटियाँ आबाद थीं जो लोगों की ज़रूरतों को पूरा करती थीं।

जब जेट छह मील से ऊपर चला गया, तो पृथ्वी पर जमीन से ज्यादा पानी है। हमारे ग्रह की भौगोलिक बारीकियों की सराहना करते हुए, कवि सीमाओं को बनाने, दीवारों को खड़ा करने, बाड़ बनाने की प्रवृत्ति को समझने में असमर्थ है। फिर उसने प्रतिबिंबित किया कि पृथ्वी पर लोग स्वार्थी और संकीर्ण हैं और वे एक दूसरे से घृणा करते हैं। उसने पृथ्वी को एक पाया, परन्तु इस पृथ्वी पर रहने वाले लोगों को नहीं; वे उथले चिंताओं से विभाजित हैं।

कवि का तात्पर्य है कि हमें यह महसूस करना चाहिए कि यदि ईश्वर द्वारा बनाई गई पृथ्वी एक अविभाजित संपूर्ण है, तो हमारे नस्लीय, सांस्कृतिक और जातीय मतभेदों के बावजूद मानवता है। हम अभी भी एक-दूसरे से नफरत या हत्या क्यों करते हैं यह कवि की समझ से परे है!
