One afternoon, a mother was at the door of their cottage with her son, Ernest. They were talking about the Great Stone Face. It was clearly visible in the hot sun. Thousands of people lived there. He was longing to see a man with such a face, so that he could love her dearly. There was a man named Gathergold. He had left his native valley many years ago.

He had become a very wealthy man in a distant port. He decided to return to his native valley. There was a rumor that Gathergold looked like the Great Stone Face. The gold gathered was the face of an old man with pale skin. People considered him to be the image of the Great Stone Face. Ernest looked at the valley. The Great Stone Face rejects Gathergold as its likeness.

Ernest had grown up young. Every day, he would go by himself and look at the Great Stone Face. He wondered why its likeness was delaying its appearance. By this time Gathergold had become poor and died without establishing his resemblance to the Stone Face. Another son of the valley had joined the army as a constable many years ago. He had become a well-known general by then and became known on the battlefield as General Blood and Thunder.

In his old age, he wanted to return to his valley. People regarded him as a likeness of the Great Stone Face. On his return he was given a warm welcome. The Sabha understood him as the greatest man of all time. Ernest failed to recognize any similarities between Blood-and-Thunder and the Great Stone Face. his heart assured him that
The real face was yet to come.

एक दोपहर, एक माँ अपने बेटे अर्नेस्ट के साथ उनकी कुटिया के दरवाजे पर थी। वे ग्रेट स्टोन फेस के बारे में बात कर रहे थे। तेज धूप में यह साफ दिखाई दे रहा था। वहां हजारों लोग रहते थे। वहाँ हर कोई, ग्रेट स्टोन फेस से परिचित था। यह प्रकृति का काम था। एक दिन महान पत्थर का चेहरा अर्नेस्ट पर मुस्कुराया और दयालु देखा। वह इसकी सुखद आवाज सुनना चाहता था। वह एक ऐसे चेहरे वाले आदमी को देखने के लिए तरस रहा था, ताकि वह उससे बेइंतहा प्यार कर सके। गैदरगोल्ड नाम का एक आदमी था। वह कई साल पहले अपनी पैतृक घाटी छोड़कर चला गया था।

वह दूर के बंदरगाह में काफी धनी व्यक्ति बन गया था। उन्होंने अपनी मूल घाटी लौटने का फैसला किया। एक अफवाह थी कि गैदरगोल्ड ग्रेट स्टोन फेस की तरह दिखता था। इकट्ठा सोना पीली त्वचा वाले एक बूढ़े आदमी का चेहरा था। लोग उन्हें ग्रेट स्टोन फेस की छवि मानते थे। अर्नेस्ट ने घाटी को देखा। द ग्रेट स्टोन फेस ने गैदरगोल्ड को अपनी समानता के रूप में अस्वीकार कर दिया।
