In this poem the poet tells us the story of a beautiful hill girl, who is working in a field and singing a song. He is very impressed with her song and remembers the melody of her song even after she is gone. He does not understand the language of the song but the sad beauty of his voice goes straight into his heart. The atmosphere of the poem and the song of the girl as a part of the beauty of nature leave an indelible mark on the mind of the poet.

In the first paragraph, the poet advises the passerby to stop for a while and listen to him. The girl from the high mountain cuts and binds the grain in mirrors, sings sad songs and is busy with her work at the same time. The poet has compared the voice of a biting girl to that of a nightingale. Apart from this, he also says that not even a nightingale can sing a song as sweet as him. When a group of weary travelers arrive, they are greeted by the song of a deserted Arab girl.

The cuckoo's voice is very sweet which sings in the spring sea but the girl's voice is sweeter than the cuckoo's because her voice broke the silence of the sea. The poet guesses that the girl is singing a sadly simple song of simple substance that doesn't end in whatever theme the poet wants the song to be. In the end, the poet was deeply influenced by nature being a poet and remembered the song for its melodic effect.

इस कविता में कवि हमें एक सुंदर पहाड़ी लड़की की कहानी बताता है, जो एक खेत में काम कर रही है और एक गीत गा रही है। वह उसके गीत से बहुत प्रभावित है और उसके जाने के बाद भी उसके गीत की धुन को याद रखता है। उसे गाने की भाषा समझ नहीं आती लेकिन उसकी आवाज की उदास खूबसूरती सीधे उसके दिल में उतर जाती है। कविता का वातावरण और लड़की का गीत प्रकृति की सुंदरता के एक भाग के रूप में कवि के मन पर एक अमिट छाप छोड़ जाता है।

पहले पैराग्राफ में कवि राहगीर को थोड़ा रुकने और उसकी बात सुनने की सलाह देता है। ऊँचे-ऊँचे पहाड़ की लड़की अनाज को शीशों में काटती है और बांधती है, उदास गीत गाती है और साथ ही अपने काम में व्यस्त है। कवि ने काटने वाली लड़की की आवाज की तुलना कोकिला से की है। इसके अलावा, वह यह भी कहता है कि एक कोकिला भी उसके जैसा मधुर गीत नहीं गा सकती। जब थके हुए यात्रियों का कोई समूह पहुँचता है, तो अरब सुनसान लड़की का गीत उनका स्वागत करता है।

कोयल की आवाज बहुत मीठी होती है जो बसंत के समुद्र में गाती है लेकिन लड़की की आवाज कोयल से ज्यादा मीठी होती है क्योंकि उसकी आवाज ने समुद्र का सन्नाटा तोड़ दिया। कवि का अनुमान है कि लड़की साधारण पदार्थ का एक दुखी सरल गीत गा रही है, जो कुछ भी विषय कवि गीत चाहता है, समाप्त नहीं होता है। अंत में, कवि प्रकृति का कवि होने के कारण गहराई से प्रभावित हुआ और उसने गीत को उसके मधुर प्रभाव के लिए याद किया।
