p>Text 'The Town by the Sea' is a short story by Amitabh Ghosh. The story is about a heart-wrenching and devastating natural disaster. A scientist searches for his loved ones lost in disaster. The author tells us that the 'Director' was in Port Blair on 25 December 2004 on his way to Delhi. He left his family in Malacca when he was officially leaving. That night he stayed at Haddo Circuit House. The next morning he felt the earth shaking and the floor of his room getting warm. He ran outside to save himself. At the same time a call came from his wife in Malacca, Camicobar. He tried to call his wife after the ground stopped trembling but she could not reach.

He noticed that the water of Jia in the harbor was rising very rapidly. He along with the others fled to higher ground for safety. They were reminded of the fact that the Car-Nicobar Islands were low-lying islands and they grew up - worried.
