Eklavya is a short skit (play) with only 2 scenes. The main characters of the play are Drona, Arjuna, Eklavya and the Pandava and Kaurava princes. The Pandava and Kaurava princes learned all the tricks of archery and Arjuna asked Drona not to learn to shoot an unseen object. Drona replied that it was Shabdavedhi, which was aiming at an object only by hearing sound. A boy enters and bows his head. He was Eklavya.

Hiranya, the son of Dhanus, a courageous hunter. Eklavya had come there to learn archery from Dronacharya in order to protect the birds from greedy wolves. Arjuna protested that Drona should not accept Eklavya as his disciple because Eklavya was not a prince. Eklavya pleaded, but Drona was bound by his vow. So Drona blessed him and Eklavya made up his mind to learn archery only with his blessings.

Eklavya was determined and his goal was to protect the birds. So he learned archery more efficiently. He achieved his goal and Fawn was trouble-free. Eklavya made an idol of Drona and worshiped his guru. Two years later, one day he heard the sound of dogs from afar. He shot arrows in the direction of sound. The voice stopped. Drona, Arjuna and other princes entered the poor dog with an arrow in his mouth.

Drona and Arjun appreciate Eklavya's skill and realize that his guru was indeed a great teacher. Upon learning that his gum was none other than Drona himself, Arjuna, envious, accused Drona of not keeping his word. Drona asked Eklavya for his thumb as Guru Dakshina. Eklavya was a humble disciple, he had great respect for his sorrow, accepted. Without hesitation, he cut off his right thumb with a knife and placed his gum in front of Drona. Eklavya sought blessings from Gums and Drona said what a great soul, God bless you. Drona blessed Eklavya. Eklavya was an ideal disciple and devoted to his sorrow. He sacrificed his skillful archery to his master.
