The Poem 'Meadow Surprise' is written by Lois Brandt Phillips. She is a wealthy farm owner who has started writing and drawing wildlife.

In this poem the poet tells us that there is wonder in the meadows. These wonders can be found when one has keen eyes and sharp ears to see them. We must walk slowly through the velvet grass of the meadows and listen to the brook.

We can also see a beautiful butterfly. Who will come and hold onto a buttercup flower and open it's 'drinking straw' to pick up the nectar? The poet refers to the butterfly's tube-like mouth as 'drinking straws'.

When we walk along meadows we can scare away a hare that is sitting too quiet to hide from predators. We can know that we have scared the rabbit only when it jumps fast.

When we walk along the meadows we can fly over a dry withered dandelion flower and see its petals flutter like a windy parachute across the meadow, not only have people built houses on the meadows. Many animals and birds have also taken shelter there. We can detect the burrows of rabbits or otters, we can see birds, nest under the fallen grass, and also the anthills which are a wonderful piece of architecture.

जब हम घास के मैदानों के साथ चलते हैं तो हम एक खरगोश को डरा सकते हैं जो शिकारियों से छिपने के लिए बहुत शांत बैठा है। हम जान सकते हैं कि हमने खरगोश को तभी डरा दिया है जब वह तेजी से कूदता है।

जब हम घास के मैदानों के साथ चलते हैं तो हम एक सूखे मुरझाए सिंहपर्णी फूल पर उड़ सकते हैं और उसकी पंखुड़ियों को पूरे घास के मैदान में हवादार पैराशूट की तरह फड़फड़ाते हुए देख सकते हैं न केवल लोगों ने घास के मैदानों पर घर बनाए हैं। कई पशु-पक्षियों ने भी वहां शरण ली है। हम खरगोशों या ऊदबिलाव के बिलों का पता लगा सकते हैं, हम पक्षियों को देख सकते हैं, गिरती घास के नीचे घोंसला बना सकते हैं, और एंथिल भी जो वास्तुकला का एक अद्भुत नमूना हैं।
