This humorous and satirical depiction of a mother's condition in a family was written long back in the 1950's and holds true in the case of housewives to this day. Unless she fights for her rights, her contribution to the family is not recognized. The characters in this play are Mrs. Annie Pearson (mother); Husband Mr. George Pearson, son Cyril, daughter Doris and neighbor Mrs. Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Fitzgerald knows tarot card reading that she learned while living with her husband in the past. She learns that Mrs. Pearson is not getting due respect from her family and advises her to take drastic measures to become the mistress of their house. Mrs. Pearson herself, however, doubted whether she would be able to follow his advice. She did not want any untoward incident to happen in her house. Moreover, she did not know when and how to keep her word. Mrs. Fitzgerald advised them to start on the same day, but Mrs. Pearson was reluctant as she would not be able to keep her promise.

Mrs. Fitzgerald had an excellent idea. As she learned many magic in the past, she can switch places with Mrs Pearson i.e. Mrs Pearson will have Mrs Fitzgerald's mind and vice versa. With folded hands, both sat silently at the table. Mrs. Fitzgerald spelled some magic words and their minds were exchanged. After Mrs. Fitzgerald, Doris comes to Mrs. Pearson's mind to visit their house and sees her mother smoking.

He is shocked. He argues with her because now suddenly her mother is not ready to iron her clothes or make tea or dinner for the evening. Doris was horrified by her mother's attitude and ran away crying. After some time Cyril appears from work and when he asks for tea he is also flatly refused. Cyril was worried and asks if she is feeling well or not? Then Mrs. Pearson pulls out a bottle of Stout and drinks. Both the siblings are shocked and wonder if she has fallen or has hit her head.

Now Mr. Pearson comes and the three start complaining about the tea not being ready because they worked so hard for eight hours. To this Mrs. Pearson says that from that moment on she worked only eight hours a day with weekends off. Mr. Pearson becomes furious and prepares for the club when Mrs. Pearson tells him that the club people call him Pompey Ompey Pearson and laughs at him.

He gets very sad. Now Mrs. Fitzgerald enters the house in Mrs. Pearson's mind and, seeing everyone sad, asks Mrs. Pearson and her to leave them alone for a few minutes and maybe all will be well. Mrs. Fitzgerald spells some magic words when she is alone and her mind gets her body back again, but now Mrs. Pearson's family respects her more and considers her likes and dislikes.

एक परिवार में माँ की स्थिति का यह विनोदी और व्यंग्यपूर्ण चित्रण 1950 में बहुत पहले लिखा गया था और आज तक गृहिणियों के मामलों में यह बिल्कुल सही है। जब तक वह अपने अधिकारों के लिए संघर्ष नहीं करती, परिवार में उसके योगदान को मान्यता नहीं दी जाती। इस नाटक के पात्र श्रीमती एनी पियर्सन (माँ) हैं; पति मिस्टर जॉर्ज पियर्सन, बेटा सिरिल, बेटी डोरिस और पड़ोसी श्रीमती फिट्जगेराल्ड।

श्रीमती फिट्जगेराल्ड टैरो कार्ड रीडिंग जानती हैं जो उन्होंने अपने पति के साथ पूर्व में रहने के दौरान सीखी थीं। उसे पता चलता है कि श्रीमती पियर्सन को उसके परिवार से उचित सम्मान नहीं मिलना चाहिए और उसे अपने घर की मालकिन बनने के लिए कड़े कदम उठाने की सलाह देती है। हालांकि श्रीमती पियर्सन को खुद पर संदेह था कि क्या वह उनकी सलाह का पालन कर पाएंगी। वह नहीं चाहती थी कि उसके घर में कोई अप्रिय घटना हो। इसके अलावा, वह नहीं जानती थी कि कब और कैसे अपनी बात रखी जाए। श्रीमती फिट्जगेराल्ड ने उन्हें उसी दिन शुरू करने की सलाह दी लेकिन श्रीमती पियर्सन अनिच्छुक थीं क्योंकि वह अपना वादा नहीं निभा पाएंगी।

वह स्तब्ध है। उसका उसके साथ तर्क है क्योंकि अब अचानक उसकी माँ शाम के लिए अपने कपड़े इस्त्री करने या चाय या रात का खाना बनाने के लिए तैयार नहीं है। डोरिस अपनी मां के रवैये से डर गई और रोती हुई भाग गई। कुछ समय बाद सिरिल काम से प्रकट होता है और जब वह चाय मांगता है तो उसे भी साफ मना कर दिया जाता है। सिरिल चिंतित था और पूछता है कि क्या वह ठीक महसूस कर रही है या नहीं? फिर श्रीमती पियर्सन स्टाउट की एक बोतल निकालती हैं और पीती हैं। दोनों भाई-बहन चकित हो जाते हैं और सोचने लगते हैं कि क्या वह गिर गई है या उसके सिर पर चोट लगी है।

अब मिस्टर पियर्सन आते हैं और तीनों चाय तैयार नहीं होने की शिकायत करने लगते हैं क्योंकि उन्होंने आठ घंटे तक इतनी मेहनत की थी। इस पर श्रीमती पियर्सन कहती हैं कि उसी क्षण से वह दिन में केवल आठ घंटे काम करती थीं और सप्ताहांत में छुट्टी होती थी। मिस्टर पियर्सन क्रोधित हो जाते हैं और क्लब के लिए तैयार हो जाते हैं जब श्रीमती पियर्सन उन्हें बताती हैं कि क्लब के लोग उन्हें पॉम्पी ओम्पी पियर्सन कहते हैं और उस पर हंसते हैं।

वह बहुत दुखी हो जाता है। अब श्रीमती फिट्जगेराल्ड श्रीमती पियरसन के दिमाग में घर में प्रवेश करती हैं और सभी को दुखी देखकर कुछ मिनटों के लिए श्रीमती पियरसन और उन्हें अकेला छोड़ने के लिए कहती हैं और शायद सब ठीक हो जाएगा। श्रीमती फिट्जगेराल्ड अकेले रहने पर कुछ जादुई शब्दों को मंत्रमुग्ध कर देती हैं और फिर से उनके शरीर को उनका दिमाग वापस मिल जाता है लेकिन अब श्रीमती पियर्सन का परिवार उन्हें अधिक सम्मान देता है और उनकी पसंद-नापसंद पर भी विचार करता है।
