Mary Kom is one of the pioneers of women's boxing. Born on March 1, 1983, in a small village called Kangthi in the northeastern Indian state of Manipur, Mary Kom has achieved unparalleled success in boxing. Influenced by the honor given to Hingyo Singh of her own state for winning the gold medal in boxing in 1998, Mary Kom decided to become a boxer. Narjit Singh, a coach of the Sports Authority of India in Imphal, had earlier refused to train the batki and fragile Mary Kom. His heart melted when he saw Mary Kom crying till evening and he was ready to train her.

She won the Manipur State Women's Boxing Championship and started her career. As soon as he saw her photo in the newspaper, his father reprimanded him for giving up his career or else no one would marry him. But she did not become one. Being a woman she had to endure a lot for 4-5 years. Coming from a poor family, he did not have money to buy a proper kit. He had to travel long distances to catch a bus or train, but he had to lift his family out of poverty. So he tolerated criticism to an extent of despair.

His hard work has brought him a resounding success at the national and international level. She became the world champion five times in a row. She has won many awards ranging from bronze to gold. In India too, he has been awarded the Padma Shri, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and Padma Bhushan. Despite being out of the ring for two years following twin caesarean operations, she continued to play and won several awards, with her husband's contribution being commendable. Her autobiography "Unbreakable" and the film "Mary Kom" based on her life are becoming a source of inspiration for people. Mary is proud that she has done something for the country.

उन्होंने मणिपुर राज्य महिला मुक्केबाजी चैंपियनशिप जीती और अपने करियर की शुरुआत की। जैसे ही उसने अखबार में उसकी फोटो देखी, उसके पिता ने उसे अपना करियर छोड़ने के लिए फटकार लगाई वरना कोई उससे शादी नहीं करेगा।' लेकिन वह एक नहीं बनी। एक महिला होने के नाते उन्हें 4-5 साल तक बहुत कुछ सहना पड़ा। एक गरीब परिवार से आने के कारण उसके पास एक उचित किट खरीदने के लिए पैसे नहीं थे। उसे बस या ट्रेन पकड़ने के लिए लंबी दूरी तय करनी पड़ी, लेकिन उसे अपने परिवार को गरीबी से बाहर निकालना पड़ा। इसलिए उसने आलोचना को निराशा की हद तक सहन किया।

उनकी कड़ी मेहनत ने उन्हें राष्ट्रीय और अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर एक शानदार सफलता दिलाई है। वह लगातार पांच बार विश्व चैंपियन बनीं। उसने कांस्य से लेकर स्वर्ण तक कई पुरस्कार जीते हैं। भारत में भी, उन्हें पद्म श्री, राजीव गांधी खेल रत्न और पद्म भूषण से सम्मानित किया गया है। जुड़वां सिजेरियन ऑपरेशन के बाद दो साल तक रिंग से बाहर रहने के बावजूद, उन्होंने खेलना जारी रखा और कई पुरस्कार जीते, जिसमें उनके पति का योगदान सराहनीय था। उनकी आत्मकथा "अनब्रेकेबल" और उनके जीवन पर आधारित फिल्म "मैरी कॉम" लोगों के लिए प्रेरणा का स्रोत बन रही है। मैरी को गर्व है कि उन्होंने देश के लिए कुछ किया है।
