Vikram Seth's Tale of Mellon City is a comic poem about a king who is the exact opposite of the words 'just and calm'. Rather, the king remains enthusiastic about everything in his kingdom. तब राजा ने फैसला किया कि जो भी फंदा लगाएगा उसे फांसी पर लटका दिया जाएगा। एक एक करके सब मनुष्यों को नापा जाता है; एकमात्र लंबा आदमी जो फंदा फिट बैठता है वह राजा है। इस प्रकार, राजा को फांसी पर लटका दिया जाता है। राजा अपनी ही मूर्खता के कारण मरा है।
राज्य का अगला राजा कौन बनने जा रहा है? एक रिवाज के रूप में, सिटी गेट से गुजरने वाला पहला व्यक्ति तय करेगा कि अगला राजा कौन हो सकता है।
