Jim Corbett was brought up in the hills of Kumaon and Garhwal. He was an excellent marksman and killed many tigers and saved many people.

When he was eight years old, he was given his first gun. Then Kunwar Singh went to meet him. He told him that he could go into the jungles with that gun without any fear. But he advised her to learn to climb trees. He told a story to Corbett to learn the importance of climbing a tree.

One day last April, Har Singh and Kunwar Singh went to the forest for a shoot. They couldn't find anything to shoot. So they were returning home. Suddenly he encountered a tiger. Then both stood up. The tiger hit a drain. Then a large number of wild chickens came out of the dense bush. One of them climbed the branch and Har Singh fired at him. Then the tiger roared at them.

Once Kunwar Singh climbed a runi tree. But Har Singh remained there because he had not learned to climb trees in his childhood. The tiger jumped on him. Every lion was screaming. Then Kunwar Singh blew his gun in the air. The tiger is gone. Every lion fell under the tree. Kunwar Singh came down from the tree and found that the tiger's claw had entered Har Singh's stomach and had torn off the lining from his navel to a few fingers of the spinal cord. Everything inside had fallen out. Har Singh asked Kunwar Singh to put his intestines back in his stomach. Kunwar Singh managed to do so.

Later Kunwar Singh tied his turban around his belly and woven it tightly to keep everything from falling out again. He took Har Singh to a nearby hospital. But the hospital was closed due to nightfall. They went to the doctor-babu who told them to bring Aladia, the tobacco seller. Har Singh was placed on a string-bed. Aladiya came and grabbed the lantern. Kunwar Singh held two pieces of meat together.

The doctor was very kind. He pierced every lion's stomach. Every lion was safe. Kunwar Singh offered two rupees to the doctor but he refused. Later Kunwar Singh and Har Singh went home. Seeing the condition of Har Singh, the women there were crying.

This story tells the importance of learning to climb a tree in childhood.

जब वह आठ साल के थे, तब उन्हें उनकी पहली बंदूक दी गई थी। तभी कुंवर सिंह उनसे मिलने गए। उसने उससे कहा कि वह बिना किसी डर के उस बंदूक को लेकर जंगलों में जा सकता है। लेकिन उसने उसे सलाह दी कि वह पेड़ों पर चढ़ना सीखे। उन्होंने कॉर्बेट को एक पेड़ पर चढ़ने के महत्व को जानने के लिए एक कहानी सुनाई।

पिछले अप्रैल में एक दिन हर सिंह और कुंवर सिंह शूटिंग के लिए जंगल में गए थे। उन्हें गोली मारने के लिए कुछ नहीं मिला। इसलिए वे घर लौट रहे थे। अचानक उन्हें एक बाघ का सामना करना पड़ा। फिर दोनों खड़े हो गए। बाघ ने एक नाले पर प्रहार किया। फिर बड़ी संख्या में जंगली मुर्गे घने झाड़ी से बाहर निकल आए। उनमें से एक शाखा पर चढ़ गया और हर सिंह ने उस पर गोली चला दी। तभी बाघ ने उन पर दहाड़ लगाई।

एक बार कुंवर सिंह एक रनी के पेड़ पर चढ़ गए। लेकिन हर सिंह वहीं रहा क्योंकि उसने बचपन में पेड़ पर चढ़ना नहीं सीखा था। उस पर बाघ उछल पड़ा। हर सिंह चिल्ला रहा था। तभी कुंवर सिंह ने अपनी बंदूक हवा में उड़ा दी। बाघ चला गया। हर सिंह पेड़ के नीचे गिर गया। कुंवर सिंह पेड़ से नीचे उतरे और उन्होंने पाया कि बाघ का पंजा हर सिंह के पेट में घुस गया था और उसकी नाभि से लेकर रीढ़ की हड्डी की कुछ अंगुलियों तक की परत को फाड़ दिया था। उसके अंदर का सारा सामान बाहर गिर चुका था। हर सिंह ने कुंवर सिंह को अपनी आंतों को वापस अपने पेट में डालने के लिए कहा। कुंवर सिंह ऐसा करने में कामयाब रहे।

बाद में कुंवर सिंह ने अपने पेट के चारों ओर अपनी पगड़ी बांध दी और सब कुछ फिर से गिरने से बचाने के लिए इसे कसकर बुना। वह हर सिंह को पास के अस्पताल ले गया। लेकिन रात होने के कारण अस्पताल बंद था। वे डॉक्टर-बाबू के पास गए जिन्होंने उनसे कहा कि तंबाकू बेचने वाले अलादिया को लाओ। हर सिंह को एक स्ट्रिंग-बिस्तर पर रखा गया था। अलादिया ने आकर लालटेन पकड़ ली। कुंवर सिंह ने मांस के दो टुकड़ों को एक साथ पकड़ रखा था।

डॉक्टर बहुत दयालु था। उसने हर सिंह के पेट में छेद कर दिया। हर सिंह सुरक्षित था। कुंवर सिंह ने डॉक्टर को दो रुपये की पेशकश की लेकिन उसने लेने से इनकार कर दिया। बाद में कुंवर सिंह और हर सिंह घर चले गए। हर सिंह की हालत देख वहां की महिलाएं रो रही थीं।

यह कहानी बचपन में पेड़ पर चढ़ना सीखने के महत्व को बताती है।
