The Turning Point', edited by DR A.P.J from 'My Teachers'. Abdul Kalam. Turning point means a significant change in a person's life. This is the true story of Abdul Kalam which marked a turning point in his life. When he was in class 5, one day his teacher Mr. Siva Subramaniam Iyer taught him about a bird flying in the class. When the teacher explained about bird flight in the class, most of the students including Kalam did not understand the lesson. So the teacher took them all to the beach of Rameswaram (Kalam's birthplace) to teach them practically. There the teacher showed how a bird flies. He asked the students to look at the tail and the combination of flapping wings and twisted tail. The teacher explained how the birds changed direction, and the situation could fly in the direction they wanted. After that all the students understood the lesson of the bird flying. For Kalam the lesson was not just to understand how a bird flies. He decided that he wanted to study everything he could about the concept of flight. So he took the advice of his teacher about further study of science. He became a rocket engineer, an aerospace engineer and a technologist. But the memory of his teacher encouraged him to become a successful man till the end of Kalam's life.

द टर्निंग पॉइंट', DR A.P.J द्वारा 'माई टीचर्स' से संपादित अंश है। अब्दुल कलाम। टर्निंग पॉइंट का अर्थ है- व्यक्ति के जीवन में एक महत्वपूर्ण परिवर्तन। यह अब्दुल कलाम की सच्ची कहानी है जिसने उनके जीवन में एक महत्वपूर्ण मोड़ बनाया। जब वे कक्षा 5 में थे, एक दिन उनके शिक्षक श्री शिव सुब्रमण्यम अय्यर ने उन्हें कक्षा में एक पक्षी के उड़ने के बारे में सिखाया। जब शिक्षक ने कक्षा में चिड़िया की उड़ान के बारे में समझाया तो कलाम सहित अधिकांश छात्रों को पाठ समझ में नहीं आया। इसलिए शिक्षक उन सभी को व्यावहारिक रूप से पढ़ाने के लिए रामेश्वरम (कलाम का जन्मस्थान) के समुद्र तट पर ले गए। वहां शिक्षक ने दिखाया कि एक पक्षी कैसे उड़ता है। उन्होंने छात्रों से पूंछ और फड़फड़ाते पंखों और मुड़ी हुई पूंछ के संयोजन को देखने के लिए कहा। शिक्षक ने समझाया कि कैसे पक्षियों ने दिशा बदल दी, और स्थिति उस दिशा में उड़ सकती है जिस दिशा में वे चाहते थे। उसके बाद सभी विद्यार्थियों को चिड़िया के उड़ने का पाठ समझ में आया। कलाम के लिए यह सबक मात्र यह समझना नहीं था कि एक पक्षी कैसे उड़ता है। उसने फैसला किया कि वह उड़ान की अवधारणा के बारे में जो कुछ भी कर सकता है उसका अध्ययन करना चाहता है। इसलिए उन्होंने विज्ञान के आगे के अध्ययन के बारे में अपने शिक्षक की सलाह ली। वह एक रॉकेट इंजीनियर, एक एयरोस्पेस इंजीनियर और एक प्रौद्योगिकीविद् बन गए। लेकिन उनके शिक्षक की स्मृति उन्हें एक सफल व्यक्ति बनने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करती थी जो कलाम के जीवन के अंत तक थी।
