'The Why-Why Girl' is an inspiring story written by Jnanpith Award winning author Mahasweta Devi.

Moyna belonged to a tribal community called Shabar. They were poor and had no land. Generally, Shabar did not send his daughters to work. But Moyna had to work because Moyna's mother had a bad leg and hence could not walk properly. His father had gone to Jamshedpur in search of work and his brother Gora used to go to the forest every day to get firewood. Moyna cannot go to school as she has to tend the goats, collect firewood, fetch water and do other zamindar duties. Moyna never thanked the landlords for giving them the leftover rice. She is so full of questions that the postman calls her 'why girl'. Moyna was barely ten years old when the narrator found her chasing a cobra. She drags Moyna to the committee office where her mother works.

One day Moyna went to the narrator's house to live with her, with clothes and her pet mongoose. She asked the narrator countless questions as to why she reads a book before bedtime. - The narrator replied that reading is a way to find answers to all her questions. At the same time Moyna decides to go to school and find answers to all her questions. Moyna eventually became an elementary school teacher and encouraged the students to ask questions. Moyna is an inspiration and inspiration to all of us.

एक दिन मोयना अपने साथ रहने के लिए वर्णनकर्ता के घर गई, कपड़े और अपने पालतू नेवले के साथ। उसने कथावाचक से अनगिनत प्रश्न पूछे कि वह सोने से पहले किताब क्यों पढ़ती है।- कथावाचक ने उत्तर दिया कि पढ़ना उसके सभी सवालों के जवाब खोजने का एक तरीका है। उसी समय मोयना ने स्कूल जाने और अपने सभी सवालों के जवाब खोजने का फैसला किया। अंत में मोयना प्राथमिक विद्यालय की शिक्षिका बन गई और छात्रों को प्रश्न पूछने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया। मोयना हम सभी के लिए एक प्रेरणा और प्रेरणा हैं।
