Lost Spring Summary in English
Here we have uploaded the Lost Spring Summary in English for students. This will help students to learn quickly in English and Hindi language.
Saheb, the son of a migrant family from Dhaka, is a rag picker who lives in Seemapuri, on the periphery of Delhi, and roams barefoot in garbage dumps to earn his livelihood. For children like Saheb, a pile of garbage is like a gold mine. Thousands of such children live with their families in Seemapuri. They live in slums, without even basic facilities like water and sanitation. These families are living in extreme poverty.
The children have nothing but to pick up the garbage, from which they at least earn something to eat. For adults, garbage is a means of survival, but for these children it is a magical surprise. To earn better, Saheb starts working in a tea shop, where he is given Rs 800 every month, but it seems that he loses his carelessness after that. He works for someone else and is no longer his own boss. This loss of identity weighs heavily on their tender shoulders.
Anees Jung then tells of another young boy, Mukesh, who wants to be his master. He is a boy from the glass industry of Firozabad and as a family tradition he has always worked in a glass bangle factory. Here, children work in such high temperatures near furnaces that they are exposed to various health hazards, even losing their eyesight.
Like other families of Firozabad, Mukesh's family is also a victim of poverty. Her father is blind, and they live in a small half-timbered house. These people of Firozabad are exploited by moneylenders, middlemen, policemen, bureaucrats and politicians. But Mukesh is different and confident, he wants to become a motor mechanic.
In the story, the author highlights the plight of child labour. Childhood is considered the spring of human life full of joy, pleasure and play. But the irony is that lakhs of children like Saheb and Mukesh have lost their spring i.e. childhood by being busy in earning a living.
