In the middle of the last century, the border areas of Maharashtra were full of thieves and bandits. They used to attack villages and intimidate people and rob their valuables. The police could not protect the people. The villagers had to do something for self-defense.

Makhkhan Singh was such a dacoit. It was dangerous and he had a tough team. Now he had become very brave. He used to send warnings to the people in advance. Whoever tries to molest them, they will be punished severely. The villagers tried to resist the bandits but they were unsuccessful. What would you do if you lived in this village? One day a rich man named Bapurao came to know: "We will raid your house tonight." A general warning was also given: "Do not hide valuables and do not report to the police."

Hearing this, Bapurao trembled. He had a big mansion and many servants. His wardrobe was full of valuables. He started worrying. But his wife Parvatibai was a brave and intelligent woman. When she (Bapurao) told her (Parvatibai) this, she (Parvatibai) asked her, "What are you planning to do?"

"I decided not to subdue the bandits. I will face them with my men and servants. What do you think?" "I don't think it's a good thing to fight the bandits because they are more powerful." "So what else can we do?" Bapu asked. "I think we should do something to defeat the bandits," said Parvati thoughtfully. “But how! Suddenly the door slammed shut. She was scared but she recovered in a second. He quickly went to the door and opened it. From afar a huge man stood in front of him with a gun in his hand. The bandits were surprised by such an unexpected reception. Please come in don't waste time. you must be tired. Wash hands and feet, hair is ready. Have a delicious meal and then do your job." Makhakhan Singh was still silent, but he asked them to sit.

He asked the servants to serve him hot food. She paid individual attention to each of them as they ate. After eating she brought a plate full of ornaments. He put it in front of the main robber. Then he said, "That's what I have, but I have a nugget for me." She pointed to the mangal sutra around her neck and said, "I wear this sacred symbol for the longevity of my husband. I beg you not to take it." What will the bandit chief do now? could not control.

"Of course I won't take it," she said angrily. We have eaten your salt. And you have welcomed me as a brother. From now on you are my sister and I will take care of you." Simultaneously she returned the plate full of ornaments. She ordered her men to release her husband, who was kept outside the village. The villagers heard this the next morning. Surprised. Since then no dacoit has attacked Parvatibai's house. They tell this to the children of the village even today.
