यह कहानी है एक बाघ-शावक की। वह जंगल में देहरा के पास तराई जंगल में दादा द्वारा पाया गया था। वह एक बरगद के पेड़ के नीचे छिपा था। दादाजी ही थे जो एक जानवर लाते थे चाहे वह मरा हो या जिंदा।

दादी ने उसका नाम तीमुथियुस रखा। रसोइया महमूद ने शावक को दूध की बोतल से खिलाया। बाद में उनका भोजन कच्चे मटन और कॉड-लिवर ऑयल से बदलकर कबूतर और खरगोश कर दिया गया।

तीमुथियुस के साथ टोटो, बंदर और एक छोटा मोंगरेल पिल्ला था। बंदर ने अपनी पूंछ खींचकर बाघ को छेड़ा और पर्दों पर चढ़ गया। छोटे पिल्ला को सड़क से उठाया गया था।

प्रारंभ में, तीमुथियुस पिल्ला से डरता था और रक्षात्मक हो गया। फिर उसने पिल्ला को अपनी पीठ पर बैठने दिया। तीमुथियुस जो भी उसके साथ खिलवाड़ करता था उससे प्यार करता था। वर्णनकर्ता उससे मित्रवत हो गया। वह उसके साथ खेला।

तीमुथियुस छह महीने की उम्र में कम मिलनसार हो गया। जब वह और कथाकार टहलने के लिए बाहर जाते हैं तो वह एक बिल्ली या कुत्ते को डराता है। तीमुथियुस रात में चुपचाप मुर्गी और मुर्गे का शिकार करता है। उसके रवैये ने महमूद को मजबूर कर दिया कि वह दादा को उसे चिड़ियाघर भेजने की सलाह दे, क्योंकि वह एक क्रूर बाघ में बदल गया।

दादाजी ने टिमोथी को लखनऊ के चिड़ियाघर में शिफ्ट करने की व्यवस्था की। उन्होंने प्रथम श्रेणी के डिब्बे को आरक्षित किया। चिड़ियाघर के अधिकारी एक स्वस्थ और पालतू बाघ पाकर खुश थे।
