कहानी दुकानदार के साथ एक आदमी के अजीब व्यवहार की ओर इशारा करती है। दो पात्रों को विवरण के साथ पेश किया गया है। मिस्टर पुरसेल वह दुकानदार है जिसने अपनी दुकान में चिड़ियों के पिंजरे, बीज आदि रखे थे। एक बार उनके पास एक ग्राहक आया, जो अपने पीछे एक परित्यक्त घर की गंध छोड़ गया था। उनकी यात्रा अलौकिक और भूतिया थी।

लाल गालों वाले छोटे कद में मिस्टर पर्ससेल ने धीरे से अपील की थी। उन्होंने मछली के भोजन और पक्षियों के बीज का भी कारोबार किया। पिंजरे में बंद जानवरों और पक्षियों की आवाजाही के लगातार शोर को आदमी ने नजरअंदाज कर दिया। उन्होंने पिंजरों को रखा और व्यवस्थित किया कि जो कोई भी प्रवेश करता है वह मिस्टर परसेल से मोहित हो जाता है, अपने मेहमानों का खुशी से स्वागत करता है।

मिस्टर पुरसेल अपनी दुकान खोलने के आदी थे, काउंटर पर एक जगह रखते थे और अखबार में लिखे हर छोटे-छोटे विवरण को स्कैन करते थे। एक सामान्य धुंधली सुबह, वहाँ सर्दियों में, एक आगंतुक में प्रवेश किया।

उनका प्रवेश असामान्य था, क्योंकि उन्हें एक घंटी याद आती थी जो किसी के प्रवेश करने पर बजती थी। लेकिन उस दिन फोन नहीं लगा। इसलिए उन्हें याद आया कि प्रवेश हवा से बाहर हो गया था।

उसके अजीब व्यवहार से हैरान मिस्टर परसेल ने उसे कबूतरों की देखभाल करने की सलाह दी। लेकिन बीच में ही उसे रोक दिया गया। उस आदमी ने पिंजरे का कंधा भी ऊंचा रखा और पक्षियों को देखने लगा।

फिर उसने पिंजरा खोलकर एक-एक कर कबूतर को छोड़ा। उसने उड़ते पक्षियों को तब तक देखा जब तक वे धुंध में गायब नहीं हो गए और फिर वह पिघल गया।

आगंतुकों के हर कदम से हैरान श्री पर्सेल ने अपमानित महसूस किया।

The story points to the strange behavior of a man with a shopkeeper. Two characters are introduced with details. Mr. Purcell is the shopkeeper who kept bird cages, seeds etc. in his shop. Once he had a customer who left behind the smell of an abandoned house. His journey was supernatural and haunting.

Mr Purcell, in short stature with red cheeks, appealed softly. They also traded fish meal and bird seed. The man ignored the constant noise of the movement of caged animals and birds. They placed and arranged the cages so that whoever entered became fascinated by Mr. Purcell, welcoming his guests happily.

Mr. Purcell was used to opening his shop, keeping a spot at the counter and scanning every little detail in the newspaper. On a typical misty morning, there in winter, a visitor entered.

His entry was unusual, as he remembered a bell that rang when someone entered. But that day the phone did not ring. So he remembered that the entrance had run out of air.

He greeted her with a smile, although he knew that the visitor did not like him at all. The man was wearing poorly fitting new clothes and squeaky shoes. He looked around and avoided seeing Mr Purcell.

Mr. Purcell broke the ice by talking about the weather. In return, the visitor asked for something in the cage. When he asked if it could be a rat, the visitor replied that a bird would be fine. Then he asked for the price of pigeons.

The person did not like the amount that he had taken for them. He offered a five dollar bill to Purcell to smile after calculating the profit. The man picked up the cage and was irritated by the constant chattering.

Mr Purcell did not like his behaviour, he wanted to throw him out of the shop. The man told him that it took him ten years to collect five dollars. He worked hard for this period. Then he was given a cheap suit.

Shocked by his strange behaviour, Mr Purcell advised him to take care of the pigeons. But he was stopped midway. The man also put the cage's shoulder high and started looking at the birds.

Then he opened the cage and released the pigeons one by one. He watched the flying birds until they disappeared into the mist and then it melted.

Shocked by the visitors' every move, Mr. Purcell felt humiliated.
