A formerly unexpected student came to a school. He had studied there about eighteen years ago. He indecisively entered the headmaster's office. He told the principal his name was Wasserkoff. The principal asked him if he needed a certificate, Wasserkoff replied in the negative. He wanted the principal to return the fees which he had paid for his education. He was a poor man. Therefore, he needed money.

The principal asked Wasserkoff why he wanted the fees back. He told the principal that he did not get proper benefit of his money. He didn't learn anything. Rather, education made him an unworthy ass. His old classmate Laderer gave him the idea because he (Wasserkoff) knew nothing. He said that if his request for refund of fees is rejected, he will complain to the principal.

The principal asked Wasserkoff how he got the idea that he could do nothing. Wasserkoff told that even if he found a business, he could not keep it. He asked the principal to take his test and told him what he should do. The principal asked him to wait and called a meeting of the teachers. The matter was seriously considered. The teachers decided to take the test and ask easy questions. Not considering his answers, they will declare him successful.

Wasserkoff confronted the teachers one by one. He called them by their nicknames (teasing names) and gave them absurd answers. The teachers commented positively on his answers. He was shown to be excellent in paternalistic behaviour, good manners, manners, physical agility, culture, perseverance, logic, and aspiration. Then, it was the math teacher's turn. The answer to his first question was found to be wrong. He justified Wasserkoff's claim of refund of fees. The principal became angry with the mathematics teacher.
