Jacopo told it that every Sunday they go to a town called Poleta. He wanted the speaker to take them there in his car. He was thirty kilometers away from there. The author agreed that he himself would drive the car and take them. The next afternoon they reached a small village. It was situated on a high hill. The car stopped in front of a huge red-roofed village hall and the two brothers got down. He asked the speaker to go to the cafe and have refreshments. They will be back in an hour. After a few minutes the speaker followed them. He rang the bell. a trained one.

The nurse opened the door of the hospital. The speaker saw through a mirror that the two little boys were talking curiously with a girl lying on the bed. Her appearance indicated that she was his sister. The nurse told the speaker that Nicola, Jacopo and their sister Lucia belonged to a pleasant and cultured family. His father was killed in the war. He suffered a lot in winter. The boys joined the protest movement, returning at the end of the war when peace had been reached. They found her sister suffering from tuberculosis of the spine, they had brought her to that hospital a year ago. They have been making regular payments. And they hope that their sister will recover and be able to walk and sing again. The speaker took the boys back to the car. He did not reveal his secrets. He was surprised to see his dedication towards work.
