राजकुमार अमर : (ज़ोरदार ढंग से) पिताजी देश छोड़ने के बजाए मैं तब तक लड़ता जब तक कि मेरी तलवार मूठ से नहीं टूट जाती या फिर मैं वीरगति को प्राप्त हो जाता।

राजकुमार अमर : (झेंपते हुए) मुझे खुशी है कि आपको तसल्ली मिली। परन्तु यह कौन आ रहा है? एक बेहद वृद्ध व्यक्ति: भेषभूषा से ब्राह्मण प्रतीत हो रहा है, और उसके सभी संगी साथी भी ब्राह्मण ही लग रहे हैं, उनमें से कोई भी सैनिक नहीं है।
प्रताप सिंह : हैरानी की बात है, इन युद्ध जैसे हालातों में कोई हथियार विहीन टोली। शायद वे अपने वस्त्रों के अन्दर खन्जर छिपाए हैं। ऐसा प्रतीत हो रहा है कि वे काफी मित्रवत हैं.

राजकुमार अमर : (निराशा से) ‘सौभाग्य-आनन्द भरे दिन’? जबकि मेवाड़ से दूर हैं! तो यह है आपकी खबर। नेक भामा शाह की सोच अच्छी है परन्तु एक और विदाई मेरे पिताजी को और दुखी करेगी। चाचा देखिए कैसे खड़े हैं वे अकेले, नितान्त अकेले।

भामा शाह : (खड़े होते हैं और हाथ जोड़कर एवं सिर को झुकाकर अपने स्वामी के सामने खड़े होते हैं) महाराणाजी। बहुत समय पहले मेरे पूर्वजों पर मेवाड़ राजवंश की कृपा हुई थी। तब से एक बेहद शानदार, उदार शासन की बदौलत हमारे परिवार को बहुत समृद्धि मिली। राज्य की किसी भी परेशानी में कभी भी राणा ने हमारी पारिवारिक सम्पत्ति पर कोई कर नहीं लगाया। इन सब कारणों से हम इस बर्बाद प्रदेश स्वयं को बेहद धनी पाते हैं। जहाँ राजकुमारों ने फाके किये (भूखे रहे), हमने स्वर्ण इकट्ठा किया।
प्रतापसिंह : (थके हुए अंदाज़ में) सोना क्यों नहीं? मेरे अच्छे भामा शाह तुम्हारे सम्मान तुम्हारी प्रतिष्ठा पर कभी कोई दाग नहीं लगा। परन्तु इसका क्या। मैं खुश हूँ कि मेरे युद्ध के कारण कम-से-कम एक तो है जो बर्बाद नहीं हुआ। तो प्यारे मित्र अपनी राह जाओ, और अपने राणा की दुआएँ ले जाओ जबकि वह अन्तिम बार स्वयं के लिए यह सम्बोधन प्रयोग कर रहा है।
भामाशाह : इतने वर्षों का जमा किया गया धन, मैं आपकी सेवा में लाया हूँ स्वीकार हेतु।
प्रताप सिंह : (आश्चर्य से) मेरे लिए?
भामा शाह : मैंने एक भी सोने का सिक्का नहीं रखा, न ही कोई भी ऐसी चीज़ जो मेरे विचार से मेरी सम्पत्ति में वृद्धि कर सकती थी। प्रिय स्वामी मेरे सबसे दयालु और महान स्वामी, मैं इस दिन के लिए जिया हूँ कि मैं एक बेहद शानदार ढंग से अन्तिम बार आपकी सेवा कर सकूँ। मेरे पास इतना धन है कि आपके सैनिकों के लिए बारह से पन्द्रह वर्षों तक भोजन व हथियारों की व्यवस्था हो सकती है और सिर्फ मुट्ठी भर वीर पुरुष नहीं बल्कि पूरे बीस हज़ार, तीस हज़ार हष्ट-पुष्ट राजपूत। कहिए कैसा होगा यह अकबर के लिए? हम बहुत ही जल्द उसे दिखा देंगे और उसके मुगलों को भी कि कैसे मेवाड़ के लोग वापसी करते हैं। वहाँ ऊपर पर्वत के किनारे हम एक मुगल डेरे के पास से गुज़रे।
प्रसन्नचित्त सैनिकों की टोली में सभी राना से छुटकारा मिलने की खुशी में शराब पी रहे थे, युद्ध छोड़कर भागने वाले राणा प्रताप की। हम वहाँ से इतनी शान्ति के साथ निकले कि उनको बिल्कुल भी यह पता नहीं चल पाया कि उनके कितनी पास से बेहतरीन तलवारबाज़ों का दल, तीर्थयात्रियों की वेशभूषा में गुज़र गया। उन्हें हमारे इरादों का बिल्कुल भी पता नहीं था न ही कि नीचे कुम्भलमेर में हमने साठ घोड़ों पर जीन कसी थी जो पथरीले मार्गों से ऐसे उतर गए जैसे कि कोई तेंदुआ अपने गद्देदार पाँव पर।
प्रताप सिंह : तुम्हारी सूचना ने मेरी बोलने की शक्ति छीन ली है। क्या मैं जागृतावस्था में हूँ? मुझे तो ऐसा लग रहा है कि यह कोई सपना है।
