कवितेच्या पहिल्या श्लोकात कवीने समुद्राच्या शांततेचे वर्णन केले आहे. हवा, समुद्र, जहाज - सर्व स्थिर होते. जहाजाच्या पालांना वाऱ्याची हालचाल होत नव्हती. त्याची गुंफण समुद्रात स्थिर होती.

दुसऱ्या श्लोकात समुद्राच्या सौम्य लाटांचे वर्णन आहे. लाटा इतक्या कमी पडत होत्या की त्या काही चिन्ह किंवा आवाज करत नव्हत्या. घंटा न हलवता किंवा न वाजवता लाटा हळूवारपणे इंचकेप खडकावर वाहत होत्या.

तिसरा श्लोक बेलबद्दल आहे. 'अॅबरब्रोथोकच्या चांगल्या जुन्या मठाधिपतीने' इंचकेप रॉकवर इंचकेप बेल लावली. वादळाच्या वेळी ते एका बोयवर तरंगत होते आणि धोकादायक खडक तेथे असल्याची सर्वांना सूचना देण्यासाठी उंच भरतींनी वाजत होते.

पुढच्या चार ओळींमध्ये, कवी आपल्याला खराब हवामानात नाविकांना बेलने कसे मार्गदर्शन केले ते सांगतो. वादळाच्या वेळी उंच लाटांच्या खाली लपून राहिल्यामुळे नाविकांना खडक दिसत नव्हता. पण त्यांना वाजणारी घंटा ऐकू आली आणि ते धोकादायक (धोकादायक) खडकापासून दूर गेले. त्यामुळे बेलने त्यांचे प्राण वाचवले. मग नाविकांनी मठाधिपतीला त्याच्या चांगल्या कामासाठी आशीर्वाद दिले.

चौदाव्या श्लोकात राल्फच्या माणसांपैकी एक म्हणतो की त्याला लाटांचा गर्जना आवाज ऐकू येतो. त्यामुळे ते किनार्‍याजवळ असावेत, अशी त्यांची अपेक्षा आहे. इंचकेप बेल आता उरली नाही, कारण ती त्यांना या परिस्थितीत मार्गदर्शन करू शकते याबद्दलही त्यांना खेद आहे.

In the first verse of the poem, the poet describes the peace of the sea. The air, the sea, the ship - everything was stationary. The ship's hull was not moving. His knot was fixed in the sea.

The second verse describes the gentle waves of the sea. The waves were so low that they made no sign or sound. Without moving or ringing the bell the waves were gently flowing over the inchcap cap.

The third verse is about Bell. The good old abbot of Aberbrothok planted an inchcap bell on Inchcap rock. At the time of the storm they were floating on a buoy, and high tides were ringing to alert everyone that dangerous rocks were there.

In the next four lines, the poet tells us how Bell guided sailors in bad weather. The sailors could not see the rocks because they were hiding under the high waves during the storm. But they heard the bell ringing and they ran away from the dangerous rock. So Bell saved their lives. The sailors then blessed the abbot for his good work.

The fifth verse provides a happy atmosphere, as it usually happens before every disaster. On a particular bright day everything seemed happy. The seabirds were roaming the sea, shouting for joy.

Sir Ralph is first introduced in the sixth verse of the poem. On that day, the buoy (floating mark plowed to show the reef) on the Inchcap rock was clearly visible, as it was a black spot in the green sea. Sir Ralph Rover went to the deck of his ship and looked at Boy's dark place.

The next verse deals with Ralph's feelings and thoughts. He was happy to see the good weather of spring. He was whistling and singing happily. He was actually very happy. But no one knew that there was a sinful thought behind this happiness.

In the eighth verse, Rover speaks for himself and expresses his desire. His gaze was fixed on the boy floating on the Inchcap rock. Sir Ralph the Rover ordered his crew to take the boat to Inchcap Rock. He then says that he is going to suffer (kill or destroy) the good work of the abbot of Abercrombie.

The ninth verse describes Rover's men taking the boat to Inchcap Rock. There he bent over the boat and cut the bell off the rock.

The next verse depicts how the bell was ringing and bubbling. The bubbles rose and burst all around. Sir Ralph rejoiced at the thought that the bell would no longer save ships and that the sailors would not bless the abbot.

Sir Ralph the Rover then walked away from the rock. He then plundered and looted several ships that had crashed into Inchcap Rock. He is now a rich man with all the looted treasures. And today he will sail to the shores of Scotland.

Verse 12 describes the gloomy weather on the day the rover sails for Scotland. The sun is hidden behind a thick fog. Strong winds were blowing throughout the day, now the winds have stopped in the evening.

The next four lines continued the melancholy. The rover is now on the deck of his ship. They cannot see the land because it is dark. Sir Ralph assures that the moon will soon appear and so will the light.

In verse 14, one of Ralph's men says he can hear the roar of the waves. So they expect it to be near the shore. Inchcap Bell is no more, as he regrets that he can guide them in this situation.

But there was no sound. The tides were strong. The rover and its crew are carrying the ship. Suddenly the ship is hit. They all knew that the ship had hit Inchcap Rock.

Sir Ralph the Rover pulls his hair in frustration. He curses himself for his evil deeds. Meanwhile, water fills every corner of the container and it sinks into the sea.

In the last verse of the poem, as the rover dies, he hears the sound of an inchcap bell ringing. The fact that Satan himself was ringing underwater was his death knell.

Thus Rover is punished for his sinful deeds. Robert Southee is a poet who always teaches through his poems. This is no exception.
