Indian Weavers Poem Summary in English

Here we have uploaded the Indian Weavers Poem Summary in English for students. This will help students to learn quickly in English and Marathi language.

In the first verse, the poet asks the weavers why they weave very beautiful and elegant (gay) clothes in the morning. The clothes are blue like the wings of the Helsian forest. Halsian is another name for Kingfisher.

Kingfisher's wings are bright blue. In addition, the color blue is a symbol of loyalty. Thus the color blue symbolizes something beautiful and precious. So the garments woven by the weavers are special in this verse and that is why the poet is curious to know about them.

The Indian weavers answer, 'We weave newborn clothes, that is, they weave beautiful garments for the young who have just come into the world.'

In this verse, many images are used to describe the first phase of human life, such as Break of Day, Garments So Gay, and Blue as the wings of the Halsian Wild. This stage is full of joy, freshness, hope, beauty etc., there is no sadness in the stage.
In the second verse, the poet meets the Indian weavers again, this time at night. This may indicate evening or late evening when the sun sets and the path to darkness is cleared. Moreover, most Indian marriages also take place during this period.

The poet asks the weavers why they weave bright garments like peacock, purple and green feathers. At this time the clothes are bright and full of colors like peacock feathers (in the morning).

The weavers reply that they weave the queen's wedding veil, thus referring to the adult stage in another or other words of life. During this stage, man is very active. They love each other, get married and seek a better and richer life.

The colors purple and green are symbols of sorrow and joy or of struggle and ease in adulthood, and all these colors or the ups and downs of life illuminate adulthood.

In the last verse, the poet weavers look serious and yet they are very sad, mournful and calm. They are weaving something strange in the cold of the moon, that is, in the dead of night, which is white like a fan and white like a cloud, meaning colorless, lifeless.

Since the poetess fails to find out what they (clothes) are and why they are sad and quiet, she asks what they are weaving rather than why they are weaving. They answer that they are weaving a shroud for a dead person.

Thus the third and final stage is death which is as lifeless and lifeless as a white cloud or a fan. In this way life which starts with life, happiness, hope etc. ends with sorrow.
