अनिल हे 25 वर्षांचे लेखक होते. अत्यंत बेफिकीरपणे तो आपले जीवन जगत होता. आयुष्य चालवण्यासाठी पैसे मिळवण्यासाठी ते लिहिण्यासाठी धडपडत होते. एके दिवशी अनिल कुस्तीचा सामना पाहत होता. तो हरिशी संगती करतो. त्या व्यक्तीची खुशामत करण्यासाठी हरीने त्याचा जुना फॉर्म्युला वापरला. अनिलने प्रभावित केले आणि त्याला वचन दिले की ते त्याला लिहायचे कसे, नंबर कसे जोडायचे आणि चवदार जेवण कसे बनवायचे ते शिकवेल. आता दोघेही आनंदाने एकत्र राहत होते.

एके दिवशी हरीने पाहिले की अनिलने नोटांचे बंडल आणले आहे. त्याला गादीखाली ठेवताना दिसले. हरीने नोटांचे बंडल पाहिल्यावर त्याच्या मनात दुष्ट आत्मा जागृत झाला. त्याच रात्री अनिलला लुटायचे ठरवले. रात्रीचे जेवण करून अनिल शांतपणे झोपला. हरी पलंगावर पडला आणि गादीखाली हात सरकवला. त्याने नोटा मिळवल्या आणि तेथून पळ काढला. लखनौला जाणार्‍या ट्रेनमध्ये चढण्यासाठी ते रेल्वे स्टेशनवरून निघाले. पण, तो चुकला. तो बाजारातून फिरला. पाऊस पडत होता आणि हरिसिंह पूर्णपणे भिजला होता.

त्याच्या मनात द्वंद्व सुरू होतं. त्याला अनिलच्या विश्वासाचा विश्वासघात करायचा नव्हता. शिवाय, अनिल त्याला त्याचे आयुष्य बदलू शकणारे अंक कसे लिहायचे आणि जोडायचे हे शिकवत होता. त्यामुळे तो रेल्वे स्थानकातून निघून गेला. तो शेतात येऊन बाकावर बसला. तेवढ्यात जोरदार पाऊस सुरू होता. थंडगार वारा वाहत होता. त्याने एका निरपराध व्यक्तीची फसवणूक केल्यामुळे त्याला अपराधी वाटले. त्याचा शर्ट आणि पायजमा त्याच्या अंगाला चिकटला कारण पावसामुळे तो ओला झाला होता.

हरिसिंगचे मन बदलले होते. त्याने अनिलकडे परत जाण्याचे आणि पैसे उशीखाली ठेवण्याचा निर्णय घेतला. खोलीत पोहोचून त्याने पैसे परत ठेवले. दुसऱ्या दिवशी सकाळी तो जरा उशिराच उठला आणि अनिलने चहा बनवला होता. अनिलने हरिसिंगला रु. 50 त्याने ते कमावल्याचे सांगत. त्याला आता नियमित पगार दिला जाईल असे सांगितले. हरीने ती चिठ्ठी हातात ठेवली. काल रात्रीच्या पावसाने ती चिठ्ठी अजूनही भिजत असल्याचे त्याच्या लक्षात आले. हरीला कळले की अनिलला त्याच्या कृत्याबद्दल कळले पण त्याच्या मनात दुःख, राग किंवा अपराधीपणा नव्हता.

Anil was a writer for 25 years. He was living his life very carefree. He was struggling to write in order to earn a living. One day Anil was watching a wrestling match. He associates with Harish. Harry used his old formula to flatter the man. Anil impressed her and promised to teach her how to write, how to add numbers and how to make a tasty meal. Now the two were living happily together.

One day Hari saw that Anil had brought a bundle of notes. He was seen being put under the mattress. When Hari saw the bundle of notes, an evil spirit awoke in his mind. That night Anil decided to rob. After dinner Anil slept peacefully. Hari fell on the bed and slipped his hand under the mattress. He got the notes and ran away. He left the train station to board the train to Lucknow. But, he missed. He walked through the market. It was raining and Harisingh was completely soaked.

The conflict begins in his mind. He did not want to betray Anil's faith. Moreover, Anil was teaching him how to write and add numbers that could change his life. So he left the train station. He came to the field and sat on the bench. It was raining heavily. The cold wind was blowing. He felt guilty for cheating on an innocent person. His shirt and pajamas stuck to his body as he got wet from the rain.

Harisingh had changed his mind. He decided to go back to Anil and put the money under the pillow. Reaching the room, he put the money back. The next morning he woke up a little late and Anil had made tea. Anil paid Rs. 50 He says he earned it. He said he would now be paid a regular salary. Harry held the letter in his hand. He noticed last night's rain that the letter was still soaking wet. Hari realized that Anil knew about his actions but he did not have any sadness, anger or guilt in his mind.
