भोली सारांश – सुलेखा नावाच्या एका चिमुरडीच्या परिचयाने कथा उघडते. साधेपणाने तिला ‘भोली’ म्हणत. लहानपणी झालेल्या दुखापतीमुळे तिच्या मेंदूचा काही भाग खराब झाल्यामुळे असे घडले होते. ती स्तब्ध झाली आणि तिच्या चेहऱ्यावर पॉकमार्क होते जे तिला वयाच्या दोनव्या वर्षी चेचक झाले होते. ती सगळ्यांसाठी हसवणारी होती. तिचे वडील रामलाल हे नंबरदार होते. त्याला तीन मुलगे आणि चार मुली होत्या, भोली सर्वांत धाकटा होता. रागीट चेहरा आणि मुके मन असल्यामुळे तिच्याशी लग्न करणं अशक्य वाटल्यामुळे रामलालला नेहमीच तिची काळजी वाटायची. एके दिवशी, तहसीलदार मुलीच्या प्राथमिक शाळेच्या उद्घाटनासाठी त्यांच्या गावात गेले. त्याने रामलालला आपल्या मुलींना शाळेत पाठवायला लावले. रामलालच्या पत्नीने भोलीला शाळेत पाठवण्याचा सल्ला दिला, जरी ती मुलींना शाळेत पाठवण्याच्या विरोधात होती कारण कोणताही मुलगा अशा मुलीशी लग्न करणार नाही. भोलीचे लग्न होण्याची शक्यता नसल्याने ती शाळेत जाऊ शकते, असे तिने सांगितले. सुरुवातीला, भोलीला तिचे घर सोडण्याची भीती वाटत होती, परंतु जेव्हा तिने तिच्या आयुष्यात पहिल्यांदा कपडे घातले आणि तिचे केस धुतले आणि तेल लावले, तेव्हा तिला वाटले की आपण आणखी चांगल्या ठिकाणी जावे. शाळेत तिला एक शिक्षिका भेटली जी तिच्याशी खूप दयाळू आणि सभ्य होती. तिने तिला अभ्यास करण्यास आणि आत्मविश्वासाने बोलण्यास प्रोत्साहित केले. यामुळे भोलीमध्ये आशा भरली आणि ती रोज शाळेत जाऊ लागली. अनेक वर्षे उलटून गेली आणि तिचे गाव एका छोट्याशा शहरात बनले, ज्यात काही सुविधांसह एक कापूस गिरणी, एक सिनेमा आणि प्राथमिक शाळा माध्यमिक शाळेत रूपांतरित झाली. एके दिवशी भोलीच्या आई-वडिलांनी तिचे लग्न एका लंगड्या वृद्ध माणसाशी करायचे ठरवले, जो विधुर होता पण श्रीमंत होता आणि त्याने हुंडा मागितला नव्हता. त्यांच्या मुक्या मुलीसाठी हा सर्वोत्तम विवाह प्रस्ताव आहे असे त्यांना वाटले आणि तिचे लग्न निश्चित केले. लग्नाच्या दिवशी वऱ्हाडी मोठ्या थाटामाटात पोहोचले आणि त्यामुळे रामलाल आनंदाने भरला. भोलीच्या खिशात खुणा असल्याचे वराला समजले आणि तिच्याशी लग्न करण्याच्या बदल्यात हुंडा मागितला. त्यांनी पाच हजार रुपयांची मागणी केली. रामलालने दयेची याचना केली आणि बिशंबरच्या पायात पगडी ठेवली पण बिशंबर नाथ हे मान्य केले नाहीत. आपल्या कुटुंबाची इज्जत आणि मुलीचे लग्न या दोन्ही गोष्टी वाचवण्यासाठी रामलालला पैसे द्यावे लागले. भोलीला हे सर्व सहन झाले नाही आणि त्याने एका लोभी वृद्धाशी लग्न करण्यास नकार दिला. लोकांनी तिच्यावर निर्लज्ज असल्याचा आरोप केला. लग्नाची पार्टी परत आली. भोलीचे लग्न न होताच विवाह सोहळा पार पडला. तिचे वडील दु:खाने घेरले होते आणि म्हणाले की आता तिच्याशी कोणी लग्न करणार नाही आणि भविष्यात ती काय करेल. यावर तिने उत्तर दिले की आई वडील म्हातारे झाल्यावर त्यांची काळजी घेईन आणि शाळेत शिकवेन. हे सर्व शांतपणे पाहणाऱ्या तिच्या शिक्षिकेला तिच्या निर्णयाचा अभिमान वाटला.

Bholi Summary - The story opens with the introduction of a Chimurdi named Sulekha. Simply calling her 'naive'. This was due to damage to a part of her brain caused by a childhood injury. She was stunned and had a pokemark on her face that made her smallpox at the age of two. She was funny to everyone. Her father Ramlal was numbered. He had three sons and four daughters. Bholi was the youngest. Ramlal always worried about her as it was impossible to marry her because of her angry face and mute mind. One day, the tehsildar went to his village to inaugurate the girl's primary school. He made Ramlal send his daughters to school. Ramlal's wife advised Bholi to go to school, though she was against sending girls to school as no boy would marry such a girl. She said she could go to school as there is no possibility of getting married tomorrow. At first, Bholi was afraid to leave her home, but when she got dressed for the first time in her life and washed and oiled her hair, she thought we should go to a better place. At school she met a teacher who was very kind and polite to her. She encouraged him to study and to speak with confidence. This gave hope to Bholi and she started going to school every day. Many years passed and her village became a small town, with some facilities, including a cotton mill, a cinema and a primary school transformed into a secondary school. One day Bholi's parents decided to marry her to a lame old man who was a widower but rich and had not asked for a dowry. He thought this was the best marriage proposal for his mute daughter and arranged her marriage. On the day of the wedding, the bridegroom arrived in great pomp and Ramlal was overjoyed. The groom realized that there were marks in Bholi's pocket and asked for a dowry in exchange for marrying her. They demanded five thousand rupees. Ramlal pleaded for mercy and put a turban on Bishambar's feet but Bishambar Nath refused. Ramlal had to pay to save both his family's honor and his daughter's marriage. Bholi could not bear this and refused to marry a greedy old man. People accused her of being rude. The wedding party came back. The marriage ceremony was held without getting married tomorrow. Her father was devastated and said that no one would marry her now and what she would do in the future. She replied that she would take care of her parents when they were old and teach them in school. Seeing her calmly, her teacher was proud of her decision.
