'काउंट योर गार्डन' एक खूबसूरत कविता है जो हमें जीवन के उज्ज्वल पक्ष को देखने और किसी भी नकारात्मक चीजों को देखे बिना खुश रहने के लिए प्रेरित करती है और इसके लिए पछतावा या खेद महसूस करती है और साथ ही अतीत पर ध्यान नहीं देती है। कवि ने कुछ सुन्दर उदाहरण देकर इसे स्पष्ट किया है।

कवि हमें अपने बगीचे को फूलों की सुंदरता से मापने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करता है, न कि गिरते पत्तों से। हमारे जीवन में खुशी के क्षण और दुख के क्षण आते हैं। खुशी के पल (सुनहरे घंटे) को संजोना चाहिए लेकिन दुख के पलों को बिल्कुल भी याद नहीं रखना चाहिए।

रात में हमें तारों वाले आकाश की प्रशंसा करनी चाहिए न कि जमीन पर छाया की। हमें अपने जीवन को उन पलों पर गिनना चाहिए जो हमारे चेहरे पर मुस्कान लाए, आंसुओं पर नहीं। कवि अंत में कहता है कि अपने जन्मदिन पर आपको अपने दोस्तों की संख्या गिननी चाहिए, अपने वर्षों की नहीं। हमें अपने आशीर्वादों को गिनना सीखना चाहिए और हमें प्राप्त हुई सभी अच्छी चीजों के लिए आभारी होना चाहिए और जो हमारे पास है उसके साथ खुद को भाग्यशाली समझना चाहिए।

कवी आपल्याला आपली बाग फुलांच्या सौंदर्याने मोजण्यासाठी प्रोत्साहित करतो, गळणाऱ्या पानांनी नव्हे. आपल्या आयुष्यात आनंदाचे क्षण आणि दुःखाचे क्षण येतात. आनंदाचे क्षण (सुवर्ण तास) जपले पाहिजेत तर दुःखाचे क्षण अजिबात लक्षात ठेवू नयेत.

रात्री, आपण तारांकित आकाशाचे कौतुक केले पाहिजे आणि जमिनीवरील सावल्यांचे नाही. ज्या क्षणांनी आपल्या चेहऱ्यावर हास्य आणले त्या क्षणांवर आपण आपले आयुष्य मोजले पाहिजे, अश्रूंनी नव्हे. कवी शेवटी म्हणतो की आपल्या वाढदिवशी आपण आपले वय गेलेल्या वर्षांनी मोजू नये तर आपल्या मित्रांची संख्या मोजावी. आपण आपले आशीर्वाद मोजायला शिकले पाहिजे आणि आपल्याला मिळालेल्या सर्व चांगल्या गोष्टींबद्दल कृतज्ञ असले पाहिजे आणि आपल्याकडे जे आहे त्याबद्दल स्वतःला भाग्यवान समजले पाहिजे.
