ஜஸ்வந்த் சிங் ராவத் ஒரு இந்திய சிப்பாய், அருணாச்சல பிரதேசத்தில் உள்ள ஜஸ்வந்த்கர் என்ற இடம் அவரிடமிருந்து அதன் பெயரைப் பெற்றது. நௌரானாங்கின் யுகங்கள் மூலம் வழங்கப்பட்ட புராணக் கதை, 'நௌரானாங் போர்', ஊக்கமளிப்பதாகவும், ஜஸ்வந்தின் வீரம் மற்றும் தேசபக்தியைப் பதிவுசெய்கிறது.

1962-ம் ஆண்டு இந்தியாவுக்கும் சீனாவுக்கும் இடையே போர் நடந்தது. போரின் இறுதிப் பகுதியில் சீன ராணுவத்துக்கு எதிராக இந்திய ராணுவம் கடைசியாக நின்றது நவுரானாங். 1962 ஆம் ஆண்டு நவம்பர் 17 ஆம் தேதி தொடங்கிய போர் எழுபத்திரண்டு மணி நேரம் தொடர்ந்தது. அதிகாலை 5.00 மணியளவில், கிழக்கு இமயமலையில், நௌரானாங்கில் உள்ள தனிமையான இந்திய நிலையின் மீது சீன ராணுவம் தாக்குதல் நடத்தியது. சீன ராணுவம் பலம் வாய்ந்தது என்பதை அறிந்த இந்திய ராணுவ வீரர்கள் பின்வாங்கி மீண்டும் படையெடுக்க உத்தரவிட்டனர். ஆனால், ஜஸ்வந்த் தனது பதவியை விட்டு வெளியேறவில்லை, மேலும் வலுவூட்டல்கள் வரும் வரை சீனர்களை நடத்துவதற்கான போராட்டத்தை தொடர முடிவு செய்தார்.

சேலா மற்றும் நூரா என்ற இரண்டு கிராமத்து பெண்கள் ஜஸ்வந்துக்கு உதவினார்கள். அவர்கள் தனித்தனி புள்ளிகளில் ஆயுதங்களை அமைத்தனர். ஜஸ்வந்த் சிறுமிகளுக்கு துப்பாக்கிகளை கற்றுக் கொடுத்தார். மூவரும் சீன ராணுவத்தை நோக்கி துப்பாக்கியால் சுட்டனர். ஜஸ்வந்த் வெவ்வேறு துப்பாக்கி முனைகளுக்கு ஓடிச் சென்று சுட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்தான். சீன இராணுவம் ஒரு பெரிய இந்திய பட்டாலியனை எதிர்கொள்கிறோம் என்ற உணர்வை அவர்களுக்கு வழங்குவதே அவரது நோக்கமாக இருந்தது. தொடர்ந்து மூன்று நாட்கள் இதைச் செய்தார். ஜஸ்வந்தும் சிறுமிகளும் முந்நூறு சீன வீரர்களைக் கொன்றனர். சீன இராணுவம் போஸ்ட்டிற்கான உணவு விநியோகத்தை குறைக்க முடிவு செய்தது.

மூவருக்கும் உணவு கொண்டு வந்த நபரை சீன வீரர்கள் பிடித்தனர். சீன விசாரணையில், அந்த நபர் ஒரு ராணுவ வீரர் பதவியைக் காத்து வருவதாக உண்மையைச் சொன்னார். ஒரு சிப்பாயும் இரண்டு கிராமத்து பெண்களும் சீனர்களை ஏமாற்றிவிட்டனர். அவர்கள் அதிர்ச்சியும் ஆத்திரமும் அடைந்தனர். அவர்கள் ஜஸ்வந்த் சிங்கை சுற்றி வளைத்து இறுதி தாக்குதலை நடத்தினர்.

சீனர்கள் அவரைப் பிடிக்கப் போகும்போது ஜஸ்வந்த் தன்னைத்தானே சுட்டுக் கொண்டார். ஒரு கைக்குண்டு வெடித்து சேலா கொல்லப்பட்டார். பழங்குடியினப் பெண் நுரா உயிருடன் பிடிபட்டார். போருக்குப் பிறகு, சீன இராணுவத்தின் தளபதி ஜஸ்வந்தின் பித்தளை மார்பளவு திரும்பினார். அவரையும் தேசத்திற்கு அவர் ஆற்றிய சேவையையும் நினைவுகூரும் வகையில் பித்தளை மார்பளவு கொண்ட போர் நினைவுச்சின்னம் உருவாக்கப்பட்டது. இந்த நினைவிடத்தை கடந்து செல்லும் அனைத்து ராணுவ வீரர்களும் அவருக்கு மரியாதை செலுத்துகின்றனர்.

இந்திய ராணுவம் அவரைப் பணிபுரியும் அதிகாரியாகவே இன்றும் கருதி அவருக்கு பதவி உயர்வுகளை வழங்கி வருகிறது. இந்தியா அவருக்கு மகாவீர் சக்ரா விருதை வழங்கியது. ஜஸ்வந்த் அன்று போரில் இறந்திருக்கலாம், ஆனால் அவர் ஜஸ்வந்த்கரில் உள்ள மக்கள் மற்றும் இந்திய இராணுவத்தின் நினைவில் இன்னும் வாழ்கிறார்.

Jaswant Singh Rawat was an Indian soldier who derives his name from the place Jaswantkar in Arunachal Pradesh. Legend has it that the 'Nauranong War', passed down through the ages of Nauranang, was inspiring and recorded Jaswant's heroism and patriotism.

In 1962, war broke out between India and China. At the end of the war, the Indian army finally stood against the Chinese army at Nauranang. The war, which began on November 17, 1962, lasted for seventy - two hours. At around 5.00 am, the Chinese army attacked the secluded Indian position in Nauranang, in the eastern Himalayas. Realizing that the Chinese army was strong, the Indian troops retreated and ordered a re-invasion. But Jaswant did not leave his post and decided to continue the struggle to hold the Chinese until reinforcements came.

Jaswant was assisted by two village women, Sela and Noora. They set up weapons at separate points. Jaswant taught guns to girls. All three fired at the Chinese army. Jaswant ran to different gun points and fired. His aim was to give them the impression that the Chinese army was facing a large Indian battalion. He did this for three consecutive days. Jaswant and the girls killed three hundred Chinese soldiers. The Chinese military decided to reduce the supply of food for the Post.

The Chinese soldiers caught the person who brought food for the three. During the Chinese interrogation, the man told the truth that he was a military man waiting for a position. A soldier and two village women deceived the Chinese. They were shocked and outraged. They rounded up Jaswant Singh and launched the final attack.

Jaswant shot himself as the Chinese were about to capture him. Sela was killed when a grenade exploded. Tribal woman Nura was captured alive. After the war, the brass bust of Jaswant, the commander of the Chinese army, returned. The war memorial with brass bust was erected to commemorate him and his service to the nation. All the soldiers passing by this memorial pay their respects to him.

The Indian Army still treats him as a serving officer and gives him promotions. India awarded him the Mahavir Chakra. Jaswant may have died in battle on, but he still lives in the memory of the people in Jaswantkar and the Indian Army.
