The story 'Daddy's Enduring Script' is about the relationship between a father and daughter. It also takes us on a journey to express the beauty of literature. The narrator's father was a freelance writer who contributed short stories and film scripts to Tamil magazines. At one time he had a steady, well-paid job in Trivandrum as a Malayalam newsreader at All India Radio in Kerala. He suddenly resigned from All India Radio to pursue his dream of becoming a writer with unrelenting passion. The narrator's mother was a graduate in English literature and an avid reader. She was a big fan of the Narrator's Daddy magazine stories. The two became pen pals, met and got married. She was not a Brahmin like her husband and in those days marrying into an inter-caste marriage was a big leap of faith. The narrator's father worked very hard and wrote his stories at night, hoping that they would be big hits in the future. He often told stories of film shooting to his daughters. He also indirectly inspired the narrator to write. At the age of ten he gave her a novel. He would often ask her and include her in his writings. She felt very proud and even wrote her set of stories in her magazine. She also sent both her daughters to good convent schools so that they could be well educated. One tragic night, the narrator's father dies in his sleep. He was only 41 years old. The narrator and his family had to leave their home and shift to his mother's parents' house in Bengaluru. His financial condition was not so good and his mother went back to teaching to support her family. Telugu film producer Nindu Hridayalu sent some extra money to the narrator's mother for the Hindi distribution rights of the film. The film was a blockbuster and the first film of its genre. Daddy's script became a recurring Bollywood theme, three brothers separated in childhood, reunite as adults, and avenge their parents' misfortune. Another Telugu producer visited him to express his condolences. He said that his father's script remained half incomplete for him. The narrator completes his father's incomplete screenplay as he had narrated the story to him earlier. Years later, the narrator and his sister grow up and become successful in their profession as well as prominent writers. The narrator became a mathematics teacher and her sister became a marketing professional. In 2003 his entry for The Horseshoe Nail won the Highly Commended Award in the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association's Short Story Competition. His sister also won a highly commended award for her story. His daughters also write blogs and columns. The narrator said that although his father died two generations ago, his writing never stopped and is still alive today.
