A miser kept his treasure in a pit he had made. He used to come to see her everyday. That was his only joy.

जब बूढ़े कंजूस को मालूम हुआ कि उसका खजाना लुट गया, उसने इतना भयंकर शोर मचाया कि सारे पड़ौसी क्या हुआ, जानने के लिए भागते हुए आ गये। उसने कहा कि पिछली रात एक डाकू ने मेरा सोना ले लिया और लेकर भाग गया।

पड़ौसियों ने पूछा, “सोने के लुटने से पहले हमें। बताओ कि तुम उससे क्या करते थे ?” “मैं रोज उसे देखने आता था, और अब मैं क्या कर सकता हूँ ?” उसने कहा। उसके दोस्त ने उत्तर दिया, “तुम रोज आ सकते हो और सोने के बजाय गड्ढे को देख सकते हो।”
