The writer (Khushwant Singh) was a young man. He was friends with the Vintz family in Oxford. Guy Vint worked with the Observer. He lived in London most of the day. In the morning, the writer worked in his room. Then he used to walk with Allegra to the University Cricket Grounds. For a while he used to watch the game and then followed him towards the house. Allegra was fond of collecting wild flowers.

The writer had to choose a lot of flowers of his choice. Then he would sit it on his shoulder. That's his turban. And stuck flowers in the beard. The author learned the names of many English wild flowers from him. On weekends, the writer spent most of the day sunbathing in the garden with the Wint family. His cherry and apple trees attracted many birds. He used to sing songs throughout the day. Freda explained to him the difference between thrushes and black birds. Thrush sang each song twice. The poet got acquainted with the songs of various birds. He also heard the bubbles. Before going abroad, the writer was not interested in nature. He was unable to identify many birds and trees. Returning to Delhi, he bought books and company with bird watchers and horticulturists. His knowledge of plants and animals increased a lot.

He kept a record of the natural transits with which he met in his private backyard garden. It was a small plot of greenery, surrounded by thorny wires and vines. He had an avocado tree and a tall tree of eucalyptus. There was even a small piece of grass with some trees, it did not grow much fruit. He used to grow vegetables. His bird bath was crowded with birds and stray cats. The other residents of Sujan Singh Park also had a partnership in a square meadow. There were many huge trees in it. Several nurseries located in the neighborhood attracted a large number of birds. Many wild trees and shrubs attracted insects and insects.
In the winter season, the writer used to spend Sunday mornings in rural areas such as in Surajkund on the banks of Jamuna and in the ruins of Tughlaqabad fort. He used to visit those places every year to refresh his acquaintance with the many birds and wild plants growing all over Delhi.

वह प्राकृतिक गोचर पदार्थों का रिकार्ड रखता था जिनके साथ उसके निजी पिछवाड़े वाले बाग में उसकी भेंट होती थी। यह काँटेदार तारों और बेलों से घिरा हुआ, हरियाली वाला छोटा-सा प्लाट था। उसके Avocadoकेचार वृक्ष तथा eucalyptus का एक लम्बा पेड़ था। कुछ वृक्षों वाला घास का एक छोटा-सा टुकड़ा भी था, उसने अधिक फल नहीं उगाए। वे सब्जियां उगाते थे। उसके पक्षी स्नानगृह में पक्षियों और आवारा बिल्लियों की भीड़ रहती थी। एक वर्गाकार घास के मैदान में सुजान सिंह पार्क के दूसरे निवासियों की भी साझेदारी थी। उसमें बहुत से विशाल वृक्ष थे। पड़ोस में स्थित कई नर्सरियाँ विशाल संख्या में पक्षियों को आकर्षित करती थीं। बहुत-से जंगली वृक्ष और झाड़ियाँ, कीड़े-मकोड़ों को आकर्षित करती थीं।
सर्दी के मौसम में लेखक ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में जैसे जमुना के किनारे सूरजकुण्ड में और तुगलकाबाद किले के खण्डहरों में रविवार का प्रातःकाल बिताया करता था। बहुत से पक्षियों और समूची दिल्ली में उगने वाले जंगली पौधों के साथ अपने परिचय को ताजा करने के लिए वह उन स्थानों पर प्रत्येक वर्ष जाया करता था।
