'Cherry Tree' is a poem by Ruskin Bond. It tells us the poet's ecstasy on a tree of his o\Vn which took eight years to grow.

Eight years have passed since the poet kept the cherry seed in the grass. He thought it was his own tree. He drank water once. After that he forgot about it. But just as the process of growing in a cherry goes, so too does the poet's cherry grow regardless. Suddenly the poet saw the growth of a cherry tree in the summer season. It was as small as a five-month-old baby lost in the tall, wild grass. The goats ate its leaves and the mower broke it with his stick. Even after that the poet saw three new shoots growing there in the next spring. The young tree was struggling upwards for fresh light and air and sun.

The poet had waited for the time and the rain surprised the tree by giving it full growth. The next year the poet went to Kashmir to spend his holidays. When he came back he found a full grown cherry tree at his doorstep. It was six feet high. He hardly believed in its berries. They were baked and ornamented in a scene hanging from a branch. In the second year flowers of different colors bloomed to console the poet. The poet was lying comfortably on the grass, looking through the leaves in the dark blue sky. He also enjoyed the finch (small passerine bird) flying slowly and rapidly in the sky.

The poet also felt the joy of seeing the bees sucking the nectar from each flower of the cherry tree. The sun was setting slowly and the stars were moving in the sky. The singing of the critics and the glow of the moon were also very smooth. The poet is grateful to the cherry tree which provided him with such good heavenly bliss.

'चेरी ट्री' रस्किन बॉन्ड की एक कविता है। यह हमें अपने o\Vn के एक पेड़ पर कवि के परमानंद को बताता है जिसे विकसित होने में आठ साल लगे।

कवि को चेरी के बीज को घास में रखे आठ साल बीत चुके हैं। उसने सोचा कि यह उसका अपना पेड़ है। उसने एक बार पानी पिलाया। इसके बाद वह इसके बारे में भूल गया। लेकिन जैसे चेरी में बढ़ने की प्रक्रिया होती है, वैसे ही कवि की चेरी भी बिना किसी परवाह के बढ़ती है। अचानक गर्मी के मौसम में कवि ने चेरी के पेड़ की वृद्धि देखी। यह पाँच महीने के बच्चे की तरह छोटा था जो लंबी, जंगली घास में खो गया था। बकरियों ने उसकी पत्तियाँ खा लीं और घास काटने वाले ने उसे अपनी लाठी से तोड़ दिया था। उसके बाद भी कवि ने अगले वसंत ऋतु में वहाँ तीन नए अंकुर उगते देखा। युवा पेड़ ताजी रोशनी और हवा और सूरज के लिए ऊपर की ओर संघर्ष कर रहा था।

कवि ने समय का इन्तजार किया था और वर्षा ने वृक्ष को पूर्ण विकास देकर आश्चर्य चकित कर दिया था। अगले वर्ष कवि अपनी छुट्टियां बिताने कश्मीर गया। जब वह वापस आया तो उसने अपने दरवाजे पर एक पूर्ण विकसित चेरी का पेड़ पाया। यह छह फीट ऊंचा था। वह शायद ही इसके जामुन पर विश्वास करता था। वे एक शाखा से लटके हुए दृश्य में पके हुए और आभूषण थे। दूसरे वर्ष कवि को सांत्वना देने वाले विभिन्न रंगों के फूल खिले थे। कवि आराम से घास पर लेटे हुए नीले अँधेरे आकाश में पत्तों में से देख रहा था। उन्होंने आकाश में धीरे और तेजी से उड़ने वाले फिंच (छोटे पासोरिन पक्षी) का भी आनंद लिया।

कवि ने चेरी के पेड़ के प्रत्येक फूल से मधुमक्खियों को अमृत चूसते हुए देखने का आनंद भी महसूस किया। सूरज धीरे-धीरे डूब रहा था और तारे आसमान में घूम रहे थे। क्रिटिक्स का गायन और चंद्रमा की चमक भी बहुत सहज थी। कवि चेरी के पेड़ का आभारी है जिसने उसे इतना अच्छा स्वर्गीय आनंद प्रदान किया।
