Ahilyabai Holkar (31 May 1725 – 13 August 1795) was a hereditary noble chieftain of the Maratha Empire, India. Ahilya was born in the village of Chondi in Jamkhed, Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. He shifted the seat of his kingdom to Maheshwar, south of Indore on the river Narmada.

Ahilyabai's husband Khanderao Holkar was killed in the battle of Kumbher in 1754. Twelve years later, his father-in-law Malhar Rao Holkar died. A year after that he took over the affairs of the Holkar Jagir. He tried to defend his land from plundering the invaders. He personally led the armies into battle. He appointed Tukoji Rao Holkar as the head of his militia.

Ahilyabai was a great pioneer and builder of Hindu temples. He built hundreds of temples and dharamshalas all over India. His greatest achievement was the reconstruction of the Kashi Vishwanath temple in 1780, which was dedicated to Vishwanath; The presiding deity of the city of Varanasi, one of the most sacred Hindu sites of pilgrimage, was looted, desecrated, demolished and converted into a mosque in 1696 on the orders of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.
