Imagine standing at an altitude of 14,000 feet in the mountains of the Western Himalayas. Flowers and flowers are scattered all around you and as far as your eye can see. Blue mountains, green meadows, white clouds and colorful floors of flowers create a dreamlike landscape. Which place is this? You can imagine

It is a vibrant and spectacular national park hidden in the Himalayas. This wonderful place is known as 'Valley of Flowers'. The vast area of 87.5 sq km and variety of colorful hill flowers make this place attractive for nature lovers, botanists and photographers.
The Valley of Flowers is located near Ghaghariya (city) in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. It is located near Badrinath, 300 km north of Rishikesh. There is a paved road to Govindghat and from there the trail starts for this valley.

This deserted place was not well known to the outside world. It was accidentally discovered in 1931 by three British mountaineers. After a successful trip back, they forgot. They reached this beautiful valley looking for a way out of the Himalayan mountains.

Impressed by the variety and color of flowers, he named it "Valley of Flowers". This was followed by the arrival of famous climbers, tourists and botanists. Writers and poets have written essays, travelogues and poems about the captivating beauty of this place. The valley was declared a national park in 1982 and 1988.

Included in the World Heritage Site. Interestingly, this place is also mentioned in Ramayana. During the war between Rama and Ravana, Lakshmana was injured and lost consciousness by the arrow of Ravana's son Meghnad. Then Rama called Ashwini Kumar, the Vaidya of the gods. He suggested a remedy - sanjeevani - a supernatural herb, found only in the Himalayas in the north of India, away from Sri Lanka. Hanuman flew to the spot and brought Sanjeev to the side of the hill.

That is the Valley of Flowers! Many Indian yogis have come here and meditated over the years. Such legends are associated with this wonderful place. The official name of the place is 'Valley of Nanda Devi and Flowerberg National Park'. It has been identified as the center of various plants. In 1992, the Forest Research Institute recorded 600 species of angiosperms (Magnolia) flowers and 30 species of pteridophytes (Fun - Hansraj) in the valley region. Botanists find 58 more new plants.

Some of these species have become globally endangered. In 1988, 31 species of exotic and endangered plants were identified in the park. People of the local village are seen using 45 medicinal plants. Brahma Kamal is a very popular flower for medicinal use and for offering to Nanda Devi and Sunanda Devi.

Valley of Flowers is the dominant flowering species, Asteraceae (sunflower) and 62 varieties too! Other beautiful flowers (seen here) are: Vajdati, Ajwain, Lou Poppy (poppy plant), Canaphulia, Salampanja, Banphasa, Balsam, Barati, Haldiful, etc.

The park is (also) rich in fauna. A total of 13 species of mammals have been recorded and all of them are threatened or endangered (species). Animals like Snow Leopard, Langur, Himalayan Bear, Red Fox, Himalayan Weasel, Musk Deer, Ghoral, Thar, Bharal, Flying Squirrel etc. are found here. Apart from this, 114 species of birds are found in the park. The main attraction. Himalayan vulgar (vulture), red and yellow-billed geese (crow), pheasant (pheasant), yellow-necked woodpecker, brown-necked barbet and

Snow Dove. There are many species of walking animals (snakes etc.), butterflies and other insects. In winter, the valley is covered with a thick blanket of snow. It blooms profusely in July, August and September. This is a great time to witness the splendor of this magnificent place.

Pushpavati river extends for 6 km in the valley. Its waters divide Velina into two parts. Dew drops on flowers, rhythmic sound of water, rich flora and fauna and cool breeze await you. Listen to Wally's invitation and dream of visiting Wally with your friends.
