According to the author, science can serve and benefit us even more. Presently scientific method is used only in scientific research and laboratories but scientific method can also be used in our daily work. It can solve our personal problems as well as social problems. It can provide a right outlook for life.

The main characteristics of scientific approach are truthfulness, objectivity and rationality. Scientific approach means search for truth. A scientist is as impartial as a judge. He does not differentiate between man and another, but between man and worm. He does not bring his personal likes and dislikes into studies.

Secondly, the scientific approach is based on reason. It's not sentimental. It is logical. It cares about facts and figures. It considers arguments and ideas and does not allow personal feelings to interfere with the study or conclusion.

Apart from this the scientific approach is also morally neutral. A scientist doesn't read anything ethically. He is not the judge to decide what is right and what is wrong. But, what is important for a scientist is what is true and what is not true. He has to give facts and arguments, not moral judgments.

Presently the scientific approach is very different from that of an average person because an average person always puts his personal feelings, likes and dislikes in the study or discussion of any problem. He always calls it good or bad. He doesn't care about facts and figures. The author gives us some examples to compare and contrast the scientific approach with the popular type of thinking. He raises the question of the American Negro and the problem of disease among them.

Many white Americans argue that Negroes degrade humans compared to white people. They are called carriers of diseases. So they should be kept separate from white people.

This is the belief of ordinary Americans. Scientific thinking is different from this. It does not take into account personal likes and dislikes, interests and morals. A biologist would only say that there are some differences in physical appearance between a Negro and a White person. These do not prove the superiority of the latter. In addition, he would point out that the problem of disease in the Negro is largely related to climatic conditions and living habits. Negroes are suitable for living in the field or in the south. They are diseased only in the north or in factories. They die there more quickly. This conclusion is based on facts and reasoning and not on personal preference and interest.

Again the author compares two ideas-popular and scientific. The prevailing view regarding diseases is that it is a punishment given by God or the result of committing a sin but the scientific view says that diseases are caused due to disobedience of physical or natural laws.

In the end the author says that scientific inventions have no meaning for us unless we adopt a scientific approach or thinking.
