The given text is extracted from the stories of Akbar and Biral, the mother tongue of the scholar. One day Akbar drew a line on the floor of the open court and challenged his courtiers to shorten it without erasing it. Everyone was surprised. Birbal immediately drew a long line next to the 'first one' without touching the first one. All the courtiers and Akbar agreed that now the first row is shorter.

Once a learned scholar (Pandit) comes to Akbar's court and introduces himself as a master of many languages, and can speak many languages fluently. He challenges everyone present there to find out what his mother tongue is.

All the courtiers fail to find out the mother tongue of the Pandit. Birbal then tells the Pandit that he will find out the Pandit's mother tongue in a day or two. The pandit agreed. That night Birbal enters Pandit's bedroom and finds him in a deep sleep. He whispers in Pandit's ear, then tickles his ear with a feather.

 

The Pandit, who was in a deep sleep, spoke a few words in his mother tongue. He shouts Tevardi in Telugu which means 'Who is he? The next day Birbal announces to the entire court that the Pandit's mother tongue is Telugu. Panditji agreed to this.

Akbar is astonished and congratulates Birbal and asks him how he came to know the truth. Birbal explains that in times of difficulty a person speaks his mother tongue. Then he narrates the whole incident that happened last night in the bedroom of the Pandit. The pundit gives up and leaves the king's court in despair.

दिया गया पाठ स्कॉलर की मातृभाषा अकबर और बिराल कहानियों से निकाला गया है। एक दिन अकबर ने खुले दरबार के फर्श पर एक रेखा खींची और अपने दरबारियों को इसे मिटाए बिना इसे छोटा करने की चुनौती दी। सब हैरान थे। बीरबल ने तुरंत पहली वाली को छुए बिना 'पहले वाले' के बगल में एक लंबी रेखा खींची। सभी दरबारियों और अकबर ने माना कि अब पहली पंक्ति छोटी है।

एक बार एक विद्वान विद्वान (पंडित) अकबर के दरबार में आता है और अपना परिचय कई भाषाओं के उस्ताद के रूप में देता है, और कई भाषाएँ धाराप्रवाह बोल सकता है। वह वहां मौजूद सभी लोगों को यह पता लगाने की चुनौती देता है कि उसकी मातृभाषा क्या है।

सभी दरबारी पंडित की मातृभाषा का पता लगाने में विफल रहते हैं। तब बीरबल पंडित से कहता है कि वह एक-दो दिन में पंडित की मातृभाषा का पता लगा लेगा। पंडित मान गया। उस रात बीरबल पंडित के शयनकक्ष में घुसता है और उसे गहरी नींद में पाता है। वह पंडित के कान में फुसफुसाता है, फिर पंख से उसके कान में गुदगुदी करता है।

 

पंडित जो गहरी नींद में थे, अपनी मातृभाषा में कुछ शब्द बोले। वह तेलुगु में तेवरडी चिल्लाता है जिसका अर्थ है 'वह कौन है? अगले दिन बीरबल पूरे दरबार के सामने घोषणा करते हैं कि पंडित की मातृभाषा तेलुगु है। पंडित जी इसके लिए राजी हो गए।

अकबर चकित हो जाता है और बीरबल को बधाई देता है और उससे पूछता है कि उसे सच्चाई का पता कैसे चला। बीरबल बताते हैं कि मुश्किल के समय इंसान अपनी मातृभाषा बोलता है। फिर वह पंडित के शयनकक्ष में बीती रात हुई पूरी घटना सुनाता है। पंडित हार मान लेता है और निराशा में राजा के दरबार से निकल जाता है।
