The Journey Summary in English

Here we have uploaded the The Journey Summary in English for students. This will help students to learn quickly in English and English language.

The Journey is a masterpiece written by a prominent Assamese writer Yeshe Dorji Thongchi and translated into English by D.P. God. The author was a government official. He had come to his village to get married. His parents arranged his marriage according to the customs of their tribal society. After spending six months at home, he was preparing to return to his workplace. But he did not want to leave his newly wedded wife behind. He also thought of extending his leave. But his responsibilities made him decide to leave.

Since they have mountainous terrain, without any motorable roads, the author always prefers to carry less luggage. Now, his problem was that he needed someone to carry his belongings because his education had saved him from manual labour. Since most of the villagers were busy in the fields, they could not find anyone who could help them take the trunk to the bus stop. Finally, the author's father told him that he would send him off at Dirang. He did not want to allow his old father to carry his trunk and so he protested. But her father decides to take the chest to the bus stop. On the day of his departure, a large crowd gathered to wish him and the writer left for Dirang at 10:20 am. His father had already left and he had to walk fast to catch his father. He was very tired when he caught up with his father. He sat down on a rock to rest for a while. His father drank all the liquor given by him and started carrying the luggage on his back. The writer followed his father. None of them uttered a word as if they were strangers. The author thought that it was inappropriate for him to let his father carry the goods. Although he wanted to tell his father that he himself wanted to carry the trunk, he could not do so because of his guilt, shame and pride. He felt that if he did this then the whole world would laugh at him.

The author knew that his father had arranged for his education. He thought that it was through him that his parents had earned praise and respect from the villagers. He knew that despite his youth and strength, he was physically worthless. They concluded that it would be better to let their father carry the luggage and quietly follow them. After resting at two places for the tiffin, they finally reached Dirang. They entered a tea stall and started sipping tea. Her father asked her if she had a pair of old shoes. Then the writer looked at his father's bare feet and saw that they were full of cracks. He noticed it for the first time. He offered to give money to his father but he refused to take it. Instead, he wanted the old pair of writers. Therefore, the author gave him the hunting boots that he was wearing. His father was satisfied when he saw the writer removing his pair of leather shoes from the trunk. Her father wanted to say something to her but the bus started moving. In the end the author realized that his two methods were different - his method was brilliant while his father's was difficult.
