When Abel Meriweather enters their room, he is shocked to see his daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. and Mr. Jordan. Both the sisters and their husband cannot believe their eyes. Abel comes forward to shake hands with his son-in-law, Mr. Ben Jordan. Ben retreats to a safe distance with Mrs. Jordan. Mrs. Slater poked Abel with her hand to see if it was solid. Abel reveals that he is quite well but has a headache. Then Abel asks for his new slippers. When she sees Henry wearing her slippers, Mrs. Slater snatches them from Henry and gives them to Abel. He wears them and sits on a chair.

Abel asks them why they are all in mourning. Mrs. Jordan makes up some story to calm her down. She reveals that Ben's brother has died. Abel asks them to sit down and have tea. He suggests that all of them should be cheerful. Then he sees his bureau in that room. He asks Mrs. Slater and Henry what they are doing with his bureau. At the same time he hears a clock hitting a six. He sees it and questions them as to why it is so. He grumbles and scolds her for her deceitful acts. Mrs Jordan accused her sister of robbing her father. Both the sisters start quarreling. Abel understands the dishonesty of his daughters. He gets to know the reality.

Abel no longer wants to be with any of his daughters. He addresses his daughters directly and declares that he is going to change his will by leaving all his property with which he is dying. Mrs. Slater and Mrs. Jordan fight among themselves to put their father in his care. Both the sisters try to persuade him to stay with them but he refuses to stay with them. Then Abel makes an announcement that takes everyone by surprise. She announces she has to do three things next Monday she has to go to the lawyer and get her will changed and she has to go to the insurance office to pay the premium and then she has to go to St. Philip's Church and get married. Everyone is surprised. Abel reveals that he has finally found someone who is happy to have him. When he leaves the room, he invites all of them to his wedding with Mrs. John Shoroux who holds the 'Ring-O-Bells'. He thanks Mrs. Slater for bringing the Bureau down because it will be easier to take it to Ring-o-Bells.'
