'The Brave Potter' is a very popular Telugu folktale collected by Marguerite Seek. This is a humorous story. A potter is the protagonist of this story.
It was a dark evening and the sky was full of clouds. It was about to start raining. It was starting to rain and an old tiger ran into the rain for shelter. The tiger crawled under the thatched roof of an old hut and lay down near the door. It was an old lady's hut with a leak. When the tiger began to fall asleep, he heard a woman's voice complaining that the leak in her hut was terrible. She also complained loudly that she would prefer to meet a tiger rather than having a leak in her house. When the tiger heard his words, he felt that 'Leak' was a very dangerous and powerful animal. He doubted if they weren't all afraid of him. While these thoughts were running through his mind, he fell asleep.

On the afternoon of that day, a potter had drank too much and was no longer feeling tired. When it started raining, he suddenly remembered that he had left his donkey tied under a tree. He reached the spot but was not found. He started looking for it. When he was searching, he often stumbled upon roots and fallen branches. He got angry and wanted to beat the donkey badly when he caught it. He reached the old woman's hut and mistook the tiger as his donkey. He could not see the difference between a donkey and a tiger because he had drunk alcohol. He kicked and beat the sleeping tiger. The tiger thought that it must be a 'leak' that must have come out of the hut. The tiger trembled with fear and wanted to follow the 'leakage'. The potter jumped on the back of the frightened tiger, took him home and tied him with an iron chain.

The next morning, news spread throughout the village that the potter had captured a tiger and tied it to a tree in his yard. Everyone admired his courage. But the potter could not understand how all this happened! They did not believe him saying that he had only brought his donkey home. The villagers also praised his decency. A few years later a war broke out. The enemy army was more powerful. The king was worried how he could save the country. He wanted a brave man to lead the army. One of his ministers told the king about the brave potter. He called the potter, made him the general of the army and ordered him to lead the army into battle the next day. But the potter was very worried because he had never had a sword, nor had he ever ridden a horse. Therefore, he wanted to practice horse riding. He got up early the next morning and with great difficulty climbed on the back of the horse. Then he asked his wife to tie his feet with stirrups. His wife tied his feet tightly with the stirrups and tied the two stirrups together. He also tied her to the saddle. Suddenly, the horse jumped free and galloped through the stables. The potter grabbed the horse's neck tightly and prayed to all the gods to save his life.

The horse galloped through the streets, the city gates, and proceeded towards the enemy camp. Although he tried to pull the reins and control the horse, the horse did not stop. As they passed by a young tree, the potter grabbed a branch. He requested him to take the letter to his king and tell him that the enemy had fled. His wife gave the letter to the king and he read it. He praised the potter and rewarded the potter so well that he did not need to work again.

अँधेरी शाम थी और आसमान मेघों से भरा हुआ था। बारिश शुरू होने वाली थी। बारिश शुरू हो रही थी और एक बूढ़ा बाघ आश्रय के लिए बारिश में भाग गया। बाघ एक पुरानी झोपड़ी की छप्पर की छत के नीचे रेंग कर दरवाजे के पास लेट गया। यह एक बूढ़ी औरत की झोपड़ी थी जिसमें एक रिसाव था। जब बाघ को नींद आने लगी, तो उसने एक महिला की आवाज सुनी जो शिकायत कर रही थी कि उसकी झोंपड़ी में रिसाव बहुत भयानक था। उसने यह भी जोर से शिकायत की कि वह अपने घर में रिसाव होने के बजाय एक बाघ से मिलना पसंद करेगी। जब बाघ ने उसकी बातें सुनीं तो उसे लगा कि 'रिसाव' बहुत खतरनाक और ताकतवर जानवर है। उसे संदेह था कि क्या वे सभी उससे डरते नहीं थे। जब ये विचार उसके दिमाग में घूम रहे थे, वह सो गया।

उस दिन की दोपहर को, एक कुम्हार ने अधिक शराब पी ली थी और अब उसे थकान महसूस नहीं हो रही थी। जब बारिश शुरू हुई, तो उसे अचानक याद आया कि वह अपने गधे को एक पेड़ के नीचे बंधा हुआ छोड़ गया है। वह मौके पर पहुंचे लेकिन नहीं मिले। उन्होंने इसकी तलाश शुरू कर दी। जब वह खोज रहा था, तो वह अक्सर जड़ों और गिरी हुई शाखाओं पर ठोकर खाता था। उसे गुस्सा आ गया और वह गधे को पकड़ने पर उसे अच्छी तरह पीटना चाहता था। वह बूढ़ी औरत की कुटिया के पास पहुँचा और उसने बाघ को अपना गधा समझ लिया। वह गधे और बाघ के बीच अंतर नहीं देख सका क्योंकि उसने शराब पी रखी थी। उसने सोए हुए बाघ को लात मारी और पीटा। बाघ ने सोचा कि यह तो 'रिसाव' ही होगा जो झोंपड़ी से निकला होगा। बाघ डर से काँप गया और 'रिसाव' के अनुसार करना चाहता था। कुम्हार भयभीत बाघ की पीठ पर कूद गया, उसे घर ले गया और लोहे की जंजीर से बांध दिया।

अगली सुबह, यह खबर पूरे गाँव में फैल गई कि कुम्हार ने एक बाघ को पकड़ लिया और उसे अपने यार्ड में एक पेड़ से बांध दिया। सभी ने उनके साहस की प्रशंसा की। लेकिन कुम्हार समझ नहीं पाया कि यह सब कैसे हो गया! उन्होंने यह कहते हुए उस पर विश्वास नहीं किया कि वह केवल अपने गधे को घर लाया था। गांव वालों ने भी उसकी शालीनता की तारीफ की। कुछ साल बाद एक युद्ध छिड़ गया। शत्रु सेना अधिक शक्तिशाली थी। राजा को चिंता थी कि वह देश को कैसे बचा सकता है। वह सेना का नेतृत्व करने के लिए एक बहादुर आदमी चाहता था। उसके एक मंत्री ने राजा को बहादुर कुम्हार के बारे में बताया। उसने कुम्हार को बुलाया, उसे सेना का सेनापति बनाया और उसे अगले दिन युद्ध में सेना का नेतृत्व करने का आदेश दिया। लेकिन कुम्हार बहुत चिंतित था क्योंकि उसके पास कभी तलवार नहीं थी, न ही उसने कभी घोड़े की सवारी की थी। इसलिए, वह घोड़े की सवारी का अभ्यास करना चाहता था। वह अगली सुबह जल्दी उठा और बड़ी मुश्किल से घोड़े की पीठ पर चढ़ गया। फिर उसने अपनी पत्नी से अपने पैरों को रकाब से बांधने के लिए कहा। उसकी पत्नी ने उसके पैरों को रकाब से कसकर बांध दिया और दोनों रकाब को एक साथ बांध दिया। उसने उसे काठी से भी बांध दिया। अचानक, घोड़ा मुक्त कूद गया और अस्तबल से सरपट भाग गया। कुम्हार ने घोड़े की गर्दन को कसकर पकड़ लिया और सभी देवताओं से उसकी जान बचाने की प्रार्थना की।
