The Beggar Summary in English

Here we have uploaded the The Beggar Summary in English for students. This will help students to learn quickly in English and English language.

Sergei was a good lawyer. One day a beggar came to his door. His name was Lushkoff. He was wearing a fawn torn overcoat. He had dull, fluffy eyes. He had red spots on both his cheeks. The beggar said that he was the teacher of the village school but had lost his job. He had no money and was forced to beg.

Sergei recalled that he had seen the beggar on the other street the other day. There he said that he was a student who had been expelled. He was angry with the beggar for telling a shameless lie. He threatened to call the police and arrest him for trying to deceive people.

For some time the beggar stuck to his point. But soon it broke. He admitted that he was lying to get people to take pity on him. In fact, he was a vocalist in a Russian choir. He was an alcoholic and was sacked. Now he had no work to do and no way to support himself. He lived by begging.

Sergei told her that she should work to earn a living. Lushkoff pleaded that he was ready to work but no one offered him the job. Skvortsov asked him if he would chop wood for him. Lushkoff said he would. Sergei called his cook, Olga. He asked her to take Lushkoff to the woodshed and let him chop the wood. Lushkoff reluctantly followed Olga. In fact he never intended to chop wood, but he stuck to his own words.

Sergei hurried to the dining room. From there he saw the cook leading the beggar to the forest. He opened the door to the woodshed. He hit an ax at their feet. He picked up the ax and ruthlessly hit a piece of wood. It was a weak attempt. Sergei was sorry to do that little job for a drunken beggar who was not fit for Thai work. He returned to his studies.

After an hour Olga came in. He told Sergei that Lushkoff had cut the wood. Sergei was pleased. He gave her half a ruble for Lushkoff. He said that if Lushkoff wanted, he could come to chop wood on the first of every month. Lushkoff used to come regularly to chop wood on the first of every month. He was always given work and earned a little money each time.

When Sergei moved to another house, he asked Lushkoff to help with packing and carrying the furniture. He hardly did anything. He hung his head and went behind the wagons. But Sergei believed that he did his job well. He gave Lushkoff a ruble. Lushkoff knew how to read and write. Sergei gives her a letter and tells Lushkoff to go to a friend, who will give him the task of copying something. Lushkoff left. He never came back again.

Two years passed. One evening, Sergei saw Lushkoff at the ticket window of a theatre. He was wearing good clothes. He was buying tickets. He told Sergei that he is a notary and that he receives thirty-five rubles a month. Sergei was happy because he was able to push a corrupt beggar to the right path. Lushkoff thanked him for his kindness as he pulled her out of the sinking pit. But he said that the real credit for replacing him goes to TC Olga.

Naturally, this took Sergei by surprise. Lushkoff said that he never cut a single piece of wood. Olga cut wood for him and gave him money. She will scold him. She will tell him that he will go to hell. There was no hope for him. She cried for him. She suffered for him. His words, his sacrifice and his sufferings for him had an inexplicable effect on them. He started changing. He stopped drinking alcohol. He was grateful to her. He could never forget her.
