Part I

This is the story of what a young boy (the author) saw at his grandfather's house. The author says that although the house and grounds belonged to his grandparents, the huge banyan tree belonged to him. The author had built a huge platform halfway above the tree. He used to spend the afternoon there. His first friend was a little gray squirrel.

He used the stage as his library where he rode books. When the writer did not feel like reading, he would look down from the stage and see the world. Through the leaves, one day he saw an interesting fight between a mongoose and a snake

Part II

The author saw a big black cobra coming out of a cactus clump. At the same time a mongoose emerged from the bushes and went straight to the cobra. In a clearing under a banyan tree, the cobra and the mongoose came face to face. Both agreed to fight. The mongoose put on his look just under the cobra's hood and started attacking. The fight started. Every time the cobra attacked, the mongoose splits

Two other spectators, a crow and a myna, also participated in the fight in which the crow lost its life. The fight went on for some time. The cobra got tired after a while. The mongoose raised itself on its short legs and with an electric shock grabbed the cobra by its snout.

The mongoose stood there until the snake stopped fighting. Then the mongoose grabbed the cobra around the hood and dragged it into the bushes. I came to the ground, peeped into the bushes and flew away congratulating the mongoose.

भाग I

यह कहानी है कि एक युवा लड़के (लेखक) ने अपने दादा के घर पर क्या देखा। लेखक का कहना है कि हालांकि घर और मैदान उनके दादा-दादी के थे, लेकिन विशाल बरगद का पेड़ उन्हीं का था। लेखक ने पेड़ के आधे ऊपर एक विशाल मंच का निर्माण किया था। वह दोपहर का समय वहीं बिताता था। उनकी पहली दोस्त एक छोटी ग्रे गिलहरी थी।

उन्होंने मंच को अपने पुस्तकालय के रूप में इस्तेमाल किया जहां वे किताबों को रोड करते थे। जब लेखक का पढ़ने का मन नहीं करता था, तो वह मंच से नीचे देखता और दुनिया को देखता। पत्तों के माध्यम से, एक दिन उसने एक नेवले और एक साँप के बीच एक दिलचस्प लड़ाई देखी

भाग द्वितीय

लेखक ने एक बड़े काले कोबरा को कैक्टस के झुरमुट से बाहर निकलते हुए देखा। उसी समय झाड़ियों से एक नेवला निकला और सीधे कोबरा के पास गया। बरगद के पेड़ के नीचे एक समाशोधन में कोबरा और नेवले आमने-सामने आ गए। दोनों लड़ने को तैयार हो गए। नेवले ने अपना लुक कोबरा के हुड के ठीक नीचे लगाया और हमला शुरू कर दिया। लड़ाई शुरू हुई। हर बार जब कोबरा ने हमला किया, तो नेवला अलग हो गया

दो अन्य दर्शकों, एक कौवा और एक मैना ने भी उस लड़ाई में भाग लिया जिसमें कौवे की जान चली गई। कुछ देर तक लड़ाई चलती रही। कोबरा कुछ देर बाद थक गया। नेवले ने अपने छोटे पैरों पर खुद को खड़ा किया और बिजली के झटके से कोबरा को थूथन से पकड़ लिया।

नेवले तब तक डटे रहे जब तक कि सांप ने संघर्ष करना बंद नहीं कर दिया। फिर नेवले ने कोबरा को हुड के चारों ओर पकड़ लिया और उसे झाड़ियों में खींच लिया। मैना जमीन पर आ गया, झाड़ियों में झाँका और नेवले को बधाई देते हुए उड़ गया।
