David Herbert Lawrence wrote the poem 'Snake'. He has described about a snake in this poem. He said that one night when he felt thirsty, he went out to drink water, but as soon as he came out, he saw a black snake who had also come to drink water. It was very hot that night.

The snake looked nice, silent and calm. It came out of a carobtree to drink only water. The poet was not afraid at first to see his chivalry, but his sense of humor made him feel that he should kill the snake at any cost. But the snake was so calm that it could not hit. After some time the poet decided to kill the snake. He went to get a stick to kill the snake. He swiftly hit the snake and the snake felt pain, while the latter part of his body was hit with a stick (a piece of wood), shook his body and went into the hole in the ground (earth).

The poet did not want to kill him but feared that if he did not kill him, he would be killed by a snake. The poet felt sorry for his act, because his (snake's) form was simple and innocent. It made him look like a king in exile and he wanted to see him again.

डेविड हर्बर्ट लॉरेंस ने 'सांप' कविता लिखी थी। उन्होंने इस कविता में एक सांप के बारे में वर्णन किया है। उन्होंने कहा कि एक रात जब उन्हें प्यास लगी तो वे पानी पीने के लिए निकले लेकिन जैसे ही बाहर निकले उन्हें एक काला नाग दिखाई दिया जो पानी पीने भी आया था. उस रात बहुत गर्मी थी।

सांप अच्छा, खामोश और शांत दिख रहा था। यह एक कैरबट्री से केवल पानी पीने के लिए निकला था। उसकी शिष्टता को देखने के लिए कवि को पहले तो डर नहीं लगा, लेकिन उसके सेंस ऑफ ह्यूमर ने उसे महसूस किया कि उसे किसी भी कीमत पर सांप को मारना चाहिए। लेकिन सांप इतना शांत था कि हिट नहीं कर सकता। कुछ समय बाद कवि ने साँप को मारने का निश्चय किया। वह लेने गया।सांप को मारने के लिए एक छड़ी। उसने तेजी से सांप को मारा और सांप को दर्द महसूस हुआ, जबकि उसके शरीर के बाद के हिस्से को एक छड़ी (लकड़ी का एक टुकड़ा) से मारा गया, उसके शरीर को हिलाया और जमीन के छेद (पृथ्वी) में चला गया।

कवि उसे मारना नहीं चाहता था लेकिन उसे डर था कि अगर उसने उसे नहीं मारा, तो उसे सांप ने मार डाला। कवि को अपने कृत्य पर खेद हुआ, क्योंकि उसका (सांप का) रूप सरल और निर्दोष था। यह उसे निर्वासन में एक राजा की तरह लग रहा था और वह उसे फिर से देखना चाहता था।
